Set the Home window to open full screen

Hi there, freedml.

I'd be glad to help you change your settings and make QuickBooks open the Home screen in full view automatically. Here's how:

  1. Go back to your Home screen and maximize the page.
  2. Click the Edit menu in the upper-left most part of QuickBooks, then select Preferences.
  3. On the left side panel, select Desktop View.
  4. Proceed to the My Preferences folder and select the Save current desktop.
  5. Click OK.

Once done, close and reopen your company file to check if the Home window will automatically open in full page.

Tried that before I asked the question.  The window still opens too small to be useful.

Set the Home window to open full screen

I appreciate you for getting back, @freedml. I'm stepping into the thread to share some additional troubleshooting steps to set your homepage to full screen.

First, change your default settings in QuickBooks. It's recommended especially when you have a high-resolution monitor.

Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Open the Windows Start menu.
  3. Type "QuickBooks" into the search. Then right-click the QuickBooks icon and select Open file location.
  4. In the folder, right-click the QuickBooks.exe file and select Properties.
  5. Go to the Compatibility tab.
  6. Select the Disable display scaling on high DPI settings checkbox. You can also select Change high DPI settings and then Override high DPI scaling behavior.
  7. Hit Apply, then OK.

Then, update the view preferences from the Edit menu.

  1. Click on Preferences from the Edit tab.
  2. Select Desktop View at the left pane, then go to the My Preferences section.
  3. Switch the radio button to One view.
  4. Hit OK to save the changes.

Once done, reopen QuickBooks to view the Homepage. If everything looks good, you're good to go.

If you're getting the same result, you can manually maximize the page by clicking on the Maximize button.a27 1.PNG

On the other hand, you may also update your Windows display settings following the guidelines from this article: Fix screen issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

Once the screen is corrected, you're now ready to track your business transactions in QuickBooks seamlessly. You can check out the topics from this link as your reference: Related resources for QuickBooks Desktop.

Set the Home window to open full screen

The opening size of the Quickbooks window is fine.  It's the size of the Home Page within the Quickbooks window that is the problem.  It's the size of a post-it note and not usable until I click its 'full screen' icon.

Happy to help, @freedml. I hope that you're having a productive day.

Thanks for clarifying your concern and attaching a screenshot. I'll give a couple of solutions and visual guides to fix the home page screen in QuickBooks Desktop. This way, you can click the buttons or menus seamlessly.

You can drag the home page window to expand the size or update your desktop view to One window. To change the appearance, please follow the steps provided by Jenop above. See also the screenshots below for reference.

Furthermore, I see from your attached screenshot that you're using a remote desktop. In case you encounter an issue in your company file, see these articles for resolution:

Do you also have other future concerns or questions in your QuickBooks? You can include them in your reply below, and I'll get back to you. Keep safe, freedml.

Well, ok, dragging the window larger worked.  To me that confirms a bug - that the system will indeed not save the size of a maximized window. HOW you make a window larger should not impact whether the system saves the changed window size or not.

I am new to Quickbooks but I have been writing customized software to do specialized bookkeeping/accounting for decades and my personal finances have been on Quicken for decades.  As a programmer I assumed Quickbooks would be a mature program with bugs and inconsistencies worked out, but I am finding bug after bug like this.  Quickbooks, as I had heard, is indeed extremely cumbersome and often obtuse when it could be made much easier with a little thought.  No wonder most people require extensive training to deal with Quickbooks.

"

You need to change this to "drag the page larger.  Maximizing the page won't work."

Set the Home window to open full screen

I know this post is from awhile ago, but if you go into your personal preferences under Desktop View setting, select the option for "single window" versus "multiple windows."  This will default for the home page to open full screen every time you log in.
