The display field titles on invoicing entry

Why does the date say Notes and the Invoice number say sales order number on the Invoicing screen? Should the titles for the field entry state what you are actually entering in which is the Date and the Invoice number?

The display field titles on invoicing entry

Let's check if this is a program-related error, DBETHEA.

Make sure that you'll back up your company file before doing these steps:

First, let's check if the Template name of the form is changed.

Here's how:

On the invoice transaction, click Formatting tab at the top.
Select the Manage Template button.
Verify the selected template and the template name.
If the template name is changed, click OK. This will bring you to the Basic Customization page then select Layout Designer button
Select Properties and change the template name on the Label field for Invoice.
Click OK.
Then select OK on the next screen.

If this will not work, we'll have to run Repair QuickBooks.

Let me know how it goes on your end.

What you show means someone Customized that template. Using the images from @Adrian_A, in Layout designer of Customization, when you click on a Field or Label, look bottom Left, to see it identified. That image shows "label Field for" Invoice. Now you know this field really is for the Invoice, and the field is part of Header = go to the Additional Customization, and Not the layout designer. Click on the Header tab.

Your Date field got relabeled as Notes; we know it is Date, because we see the little calendar icon. In Additional Customization, you can Deselect and then Reselect. Save in Between. That resets to Default. Or, in Layout Designer, you can click on something and Delete it. Then go to Additional Customization and Reselect it to restore it fresh. If you do this, though, you might need to use Layout designer to delete both the Label Field and the associated Data Field. Example: Invoice Number is the Label field, the Text. There is an associated Data Field, usually shown in Layout Design with placeholders, such as "Sample" or "123.45" for Numeric Data Fields. You would delete Both, to refresh by selecting them new in Additional Customization.
