Transferring from Quickbooks online to Quickbooks Desktop

I am currently using Quickbooks online and am trying to switch over to Quickbooks Desktop. When I export my data from the online version it gives it to me in a zipped folder.  I extracted the files and they are excel files.  When I attempt to "Open or Restore an Existing Company" on the desktop version the files aren't showing up because its requesting QBW or QBA files.  I have tried so many ways and am at a complete frustrated loss.

I'll be more than happy to assist you in transferring your files, @mmlhvac.

Once you export your files from your QBO account, the data will automatically be saved as an Excel file. You can't use this data in restoring a backup in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

However, I can provide you another workaround to transfer and convert your QBO data to QBDT. Here's how:

  1. Using Microsoft Edge, copy and paste this URL: https://c71.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt).
  2. Click the Get Started button.
  3. Select the Download Tool.
  4. Install the migration tool and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.
  5.  Choose the data you want to convert and click the Continue button.
  6. Pick the Continue to Download button.

Once completed, you can now proceed to step 3 of the exporting process. You can refer to this article for more details: Export and convert your QBO data to QBDT.

In addition, to help you manage your exported data, you can read through this article: Limitations when you convert from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.
