Trying to remove a payment in undeposited funds accout.

Hi Maybelle_S,

I did in fact delete a project with a check payment in the undeposited funds account before I deposited it to the checking account. Here is the error message I received when trying to make the deposit Customer assigned to this transaction has been deleted. Before you can modify this transaction, you must restore St. Paul's Episcopal Church:Snowplow 2023/24 (deleted). Please note that the customer has not been "deleted". I have no idea why QB incorrectly uses the term deleted when they actually mean "make inactive" I cannot do ANYTHING with the payment at all, either through the chart of accounts or anywhere else. It will not let me do anything with it because it is associated with a deleted project. Once you delete a PROJECT, you cannot make it active again.

You're correct, @adreher1. Deleting a project is a permanent action.

However, QuickBooks has the option to undelete your projects and to make them active again.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Projects.
  2. Click the Gear icon on the project page.
  3. Tick the Show deleted projects.
  4. If ever you don't see any deleted projects, refresh the browser.
  5. Your deleted project will now show on the page.
  6. In the Action column, click the down arrow and choose how you want to undelete the project.

Since the vendor is also inactive, you need to make it active. Follow the steps below.

  1. Go to Expenses and choose Vendors.
  2. Click the Gear icon on the vendor page.
  3. Tick the Include inactive.
  4. The deleted vendor will now show.
  5. In the Action column, click Make active.

Then, proceed to remake the deleted transaction of the vendor within the project, and make a deposit to match the payment.

Additionally, you can also run a project report to get the profitability of a project.

Yes, that's right, @adreher1.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can only restore those deleted projects with unfinished transactions. Those projects that were marked as "Completed" before they were deleted cannot be recovered again.

If you want to bring back those projects you can recreate them instead.

Then, to easily track the labor costs and profitability of your projects, you can use this article as a guide: Track hourly labor costs and profitability by project in QuickBooks Online.

Thank you very much. That did work. However, I have a question regarding this. The only "deleted" project that re-appeared was the one I was having a problem with. None of the other projects that had been previously deleted re-appeared. Can I assume that only projects that have other unfinished transactions associated with them can be "undeleted"? In other words, projects that do not have any open transactions are in fact permanently deleted and cannot be brought back?

Thanks again,
