Join nowI find it astonishing that we - the QB community - have to find our own solutions because the official QB ones are SO unhelpful. Thanks to the person who solved that for me - it was driving me crazy.
The solution presented only works temporarily :(
just scroll down you will see it and it does turn it off

THEN i CHANGE THE VIEW AGAIN TO UNDO A CONFIRM THEN WHEN I GO BACK IT REASSIGNS BACK TO CATERGORIES I ALREADY CHANGED...fu-/ cking jes _us i couldnt make the stupid tax deadline because of this bull*&@#*t!!! fuT-kk you guys i hate your software!!!!
I hear your sentiments, xpez2000.
Let me make it up to you by making sure you'll be able to assign the transaction's category accordingly without it being changed. Usually, unexpected behavior within the system is caused by browser-related issues. Sometimes the regular browser stores cache files that make frequently accessed sites such as QuickBooks not functioning well.
Let's log in to your account using a private browser and assign categories from there. Then, press F5 on your keyboard to see if it didn't get reassigned. Then, you can switch back to the main browser and clear the cache. Alternatively, you'll want to use other browsers to isolate these kinds of issues.
Here are a few articles that can also help you handle bank downloaded transactions:
Feel free to get back to the Community if you have some follow-up questions about managing your bank transactions. I'll be here to help.
Hi Katie,
I know how you feel. It annoys me too. Go the gear icon and you'll see it as "smart suggestions" just turn it off by sliding the button from green to gray.
Hope this helps.
It is totally unacceptable that these can not be turned off. For those of us that live and breath bookkeeping they are 100% unhelpful and a constant pull on my attention. There is no reason your tech department that created them can't make them go away. Yes, I can click on the X but it just pops up the next time. At the VERY Least you can create a box to click that says "Don't show me this again". You are causing me 10s if not 100s of extra clicks a day. It's cutting in to my productivity. I manage 20 clients books and now every time I log in to do anything it's saying "Welcome" and look at this and did you know that you could do that. The answer is always YES. I've been using your product since it was Quicken and came in a box. But you are on the edge of loosing me and everyone I talk to in my community with this nonsense.
Oh my gawd. I thought this conversation just started in September this year but now I notice it's from 2020?!! I was in a "Chat" while I was reading this and after 47 minutes the girl told me the exact same canned answer that there was no way of turning them off now but she would let them know about my issue. We are all getting the run around!
I do understand your frustration, @Monaka.
Getting rid of all of the suggestion pop-ups is really time-consuming and having the option to turn it off is a great idea.
I've already forwarded this feedback to our product engineers. I'd also recommend sending your own feedback by following the steps:
Another easy way to share your feedback is to enter them through this link: QuickBooks Online Feature Requests.
I'm also adding this link so you can track the status of your request and get the latest updates from our development team. QuickBooks Online Customer Feedback.
If there's anything else you need about QuickBooks Online displays, please let me know and I'll gladly assist you.
They must have discovered this as a way to turn off their sales pitch items and removed it. I tried doing this and the only thing that happened was my screen went grey and locked up. I can't do anything in the setting mode in that screen much less turn of their stupid unneeded suggestions. I guess this is one more "feedback" item I will be sending in.
Agreed! The changes that have been made recently have made out online experience more difficult. I will be posting several changes that are costing me more money and time.
The Pop Up Suggestions are not necessary. The people that make these changes obviously don't use the software on a daily basis for their business.
When I convert a PO to a bill, I am receiving pop up suggestions to add items from 2016. How does that help? I can change a PO before I save it to a bill. If I am converting a PO to a bill, I am obviously happy with the PO and don't need any suggestions. This is flat out one of the most worthless changes that I have seen.
There should be a way to turn this off!
More to come!
I see this thread was opened in 2020. The sentiment of everyone who has replied is the same: i.e. not being able to turn off suggestions is simply unacceptable.
Since it is now 2023, and I'm STILL constantly interrupted by USELESS tips and suggestions, it's clear that Quickbooks is uninterested in responding to the needs of their users. Maybe they could care less as long as we pay our fees. Believe me, I'm now on the hunt for an option I can move to that doesn't force me to waste my time with confusing and useless pop-ups.
Give us a way to turn off the bloody things and get your heads out of your other ends, for cripes sake. Why do you want to treat us all like we have no idea how to do our jobs?
Agreed - this is the most annoying thing QB has done yet - I have to close a pop-up EVERY TIME I do an invoice???? Ridiculous. Fix it please!
I do this every day and still nothing happens
