URGENT HELP NEEDED: Need to import Quickbooks Online data to already existing Quickbooks Desktop file

We were on Quickbooks Online.

We now have Quickbooks DESKTOP file already created.   (Our accountant gave us 2019 data file which we successfully got into Quickbooks Desktop.)

We need to now get all 2020 data FROM quickbooks Online  TO the already existing Quickbooks Desktop company file.

I tried but am not able to figure out the best way to do this.  PLEASE HELP !  Thank you

Utilize a 3rd party migration tool to do so. i.e TPExporter for Online, TPImporter for Desktop

URGENT HELP NEEDED: Need to import Quickbooks Online data to already existing Quickbooks Desktop file

May be my only solution.   I just got through reading PAGES of comments here about people having the same darn issues I am having and that nothing works, and that Quickbooks support is of no help.  Posts going back to January !!

THanks for the suggestion.

URGENT HELP NEEDED: Need to import Quickbooks Online data to already existing Quickbooks Desktop file

I looked at that Transaction Pro.  In a chat with them I was given a link for a trial, one for ONline, one for Desktop.  Seems mightly convoluted, like you have to do an export for customers, an export for bill payments, an export for ..... etc etc.   Not sure this IS the way to go.

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @pjmitchell55.

I'm glad to walk you through converting your file successfully.

To get started, let's ensure your QuickBooks Desktop program is closed. Then, you'll need to configure Internet Explorer's security by following the steps below.

  1. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon and select Run as administrator.
  2. Go to the Tools ⚙ icon, then Internet Options.
  3. Choose Security, then Trusted Sites.
  4. Pick Sites.
  5. From the Add this website to the zone field, enter *.intuit.com and *.qbo.intuit.com.
  6. Make sure Require server verification (https: ) for all sites in this zone is unchecked.
  7. Close the Trusted Sites window.
  8. Make sure Enable Protected Mode is unchecked.
  9. Select Apply, then Okay.
  10.  Leave Internet Explorer open.

Once done, you can now proceed with running QuickBooks Desktop and Internet Explorer in Administrator Mode. Here's an article for more details: Export your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, when transferring data from one QuickBooks platform to the other, some information won’t come over. For more details about this, check out this link: Limitations when you convert from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

Feel free to message again if you have more questions. We're always around here to provide solutions. Have a nice day ahead.

@pjmitchell55

If you only migrate some portions of data, you will need those tools. Another option, migrate your 2020 data on current QBO account into another QBD file. Utilize TP to merge the data of both files or purchase a 3rd party file merge service.

Thanks, however I did ALL this, multiple times.  Nothing worked.  I will further review the other suggestions today and try to figure out how to get things working.

THanks again.

QB (Intuit) doesn't care.  What should be considered is not using ANY Intuit products, especially QBO.  Find an alternative.  We are finally winding ours down and will discontinue soon.  Never again to use software from a company who cares so little for its customers/users.    I  We cannot even get an actual response from anyone at Intuit that seems to care.  Intuit's responses repeating the same garbage over and over is not helpful.

to future non-use, I agree about the repeats of information provided, and promises of "we are looking into that" and yet a year or more has gone by with no results.  Not sure why that is or who is to blame. I do appreciate the comments from fellow users though. They are often the best source.

I FINALLY successfully got all our information from QuickBOoks online into QuickBooks desktop but it was a NIGHTMARE!  They really should work on that migration process, but that is one of those things that apparently has been discussed for a long, long time.  Many people have said they feel QB wants to keep people on QB Online and are in no hurry to get anyone transitioned over to the desktop version.  I don't know.

Now, I am just finding that even QuickBooks Desktop for us, a construction company, (We use the contractor edition),  is not really as useful for the reporting we need to do.  I have to do a LOT of exporting QB reports to Excel, then adding information manually. Especially labor costs (we do not use QB Payroll and we do not create bills for employee time, so the information in TSheets is useless in that regard).  Also equipment operating cost.   I guess for that we would have to do another migration - to a Contractor accounting system. Unfortunately my company did not realize that before we invested time and money into QB Desktop. So we will just keep trying to adapt, for now.  I am NOT going to go through another migration to a different software at this point.

@pjmitchell55

Consider having a construction/field service management app to integrate with your QBD. You don't need to migrate the whole system.

URGENT HELP NEEDED: Need to import Quickbooks Online data to already existing Quickbooks Desktop file

I know my boss is looking at BusyBusy ???? But I think even they said that time would have to be billed before it will show up in our P&L by Class (we use classes for jobs).  So I am trying to figure out a way I can get that information into QB without creating fake bills that will never be paid, and inflating our income.  I think I am on to something, but if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear!

Afaik, Busybusy is only for tracking purpose. You may explore these apps with more features for a construction company.
