we are converting from Sage-- the conversion went relatively smoothly until I started comparing ending balances between Sage and Quickbooks all of the balances of cash accounts that had been opened prior to our fiscal year beginning of February 1, 2018 were way off . when I started looking at account detail there is something happening in the conversion with the year end process that creates a beginning balance that is wrong-- is there a way to only import the most current fiscal year?
Thank you for posting here in the Community, @misselany.
It's my pleasure to help share information about converting from Sage to QuickBooks.
The QuickBooks Conversion Tool guides you through a short and straightforward conversion of your business data into a new QuickBooks company file. It captures the current state of your business by importing key lists, balances, and transactions from Sage 50 to QuickBooks Desktop. It also creates a log of the conversion process for your records. Therefore, there's no option in the tool to choose specific period to export.
However, if you find any missing transactions, be sure to check the failed transaction log file located at: C:\USERS\YOURUSERNAME\My Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks ConversionTool\.
You may check this article for additional reference: Convert from Sage 50 using QuickBooks Conversion Tool.
Stay in touch if you have any other concerns by adding a comment below, it's our pleasure to help. Wishing you continued success!
Thank you but your response didn't help -- there are 38 check recording errors and 1 customer error-- but no tracking info given - and one account that is off is one that we do not write checks from only interbank transfers-- what I wanted to know is if there is a way to transfer just our most recent fiscal year so I have correct opening balances-- the conversion tool converted all of our files going back to 2011-- oh and the check errors all indicate only one A/P or A/R is allowed per transaction-
Thank you- but your suggestion did not work-- we used the conversion tool and it converted everything back as far as Sage allowed -- the error file indicated 38 checks could not be recorded due to multiple A/R or A/P used -- however no information about check # or account charged was given. What I need to know is if it is possible to convert or transfer information for the time period of 2/1/18 -- 12/31/18 only this would make finding and fixing any errors so much easier
I get where you're coming from, misselany.
Though, as what my colleague @Angelyn_T stated, the conversion tool is unable to convert a specific period only.
As a workaround, you'll want to start a QuickBooks company file from scratch, then enter the transactions manually. You can ask from Sage the Customer, Vendor, Items, and Chart of Accounts lists, and import them into the software using Excel files.
You can reach out to us again if you need more help. Have a great day!
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you...
What I am curious about, however, is if this issue ever got solved for you?
We are a large company considering transitioning from Sage 50 to Quickbooks next month. I cannot afford to be solving mysteries of disappearing data.
Also, if you have an helpful hints, I would so appreciate them!
Thanks,
Rhonda
PS Hoping someone on the @QuickBooksHelp team was able to help you
Does this tool work to convert Sage 50 to Quickbooks online? Louise
Greetings, Wease.
Allow me to join the conversation and share some insights about the conversion process.
The option to directly convert your Sage 50 directly to QuickBooks Online is currently unavailable. You’ll have to transfer the data to the desktop version first.
Before proceeding, check the computer, and make sure it meets the system requirements. This will help avoid problems when transferring the information.
When you’re ready, use the tool provided by @Angelyn_T. Once done, you can now transfer the information from the desktop to QBO.
Here’s an article with detailed instructions and a tutorial for the process: Convert QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.
With these steps, the Sage 50 data should now show in QBO.
Let me know about your success transferring the information, or if you have any other concerns.. I’ll be around to help. Have a good one.
Thanks for chiming in.
One of your links :( isn't for converting from Sage 50 to Enterprise :D
I have read several articles, several times and have talked to customer service. I am stuck on finding the folder name in order to convert, which brings me to another question'
If I convert from Sage 50 to QB Enterprise, will I lose any data in Sage? I have payroll tomorrow!
If I chose the wrong file to convert, will it stop me from moving forward and possibly wrecking havoc?
H E L P is my biggest word right now and not feeling too inspired at this very moment... even though I REALLY want us to convert :D
So, here is what I have done so far
1. Backed up my info in Sage
2. Installed QB on my computer (and server), with the help of my tech guy
3. Downloaded the QB Conversion Tool
- and followed all the steps up to Step 3, where I do not have my file name... (Sage not that user friendly)
4. Read more articles LOL
5. Reached out by phone
6. Reached out by live chat
7. Reached out to my customer success manager (haven't connected with as of yet)
8. Think I've, at least, found the file path, maybe
9. Reached out to this community
Thanks for your help!!
hoping . . . counting on it . . .
Hello, @RhondaL.
Allow me to step in and provide clarification about converting your data from Sage to QuickBooks Desktop.
The good thing about the conversion tool is that it copies the data from Sage to QuickBooks. As long as your file from Sage is stored locally in your computer, you don't need to worry about losing the data when you process the conversion.
However, regarding your payroll, it'd be best to run it using Sage since the tool can't convert any of the following:
You'll need to manually enter historical payroll data using the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll subscription. You can refer to this article for more information: Enter historical payroll data.
Also, you'll need to be careful in choosing the correct file to convert. The conversion tool won't recognize this and will continue the process of converting.
For additional references, check out the following articles.
Use Sage or Peachtree conversion tool to convert to QuickBooks Desktop

Except that I don't have Quickbooks Desktop.
Louise
You don't have to worry, @Wease.
We have a QuickBooks Desktop trial version you can download. This should help convert Sage into QuickBooks Online (QBO).
First, please make sure the computer meets the minimum requirements to install the software. Then, click the version's link you want to use.
For additional details, refer to this article: Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop.
Once done, please follow the steps below on how to convert Sage to QuickBooks.
Set data access credentials
Download and run the Conversion Tool
The tool must run with Windows administrator rights for proper conversion.
As always, check out the articles shared by my colleague for the detailed steps:
If you haven't signed up for QBO, see our QuickBooks Online trial page to try it for free. Now, you're ready to convert QuickBooks Desktop File to QuickBooks Online.
That information should get you back in order, Louise.
Let me know how it goes after performing the steps above. I'll jump right back in to assist if you need anything else. Best regards.
The conversion tool didn't work for me, not even with help from the DS team.
Wondering if you have an outside source or two that you could recommend I research.
A bit discouraged after the results of data this week.
Thanks for your help
We don't intend to make you feel that way, @RhondaL.
You can search for application online. Let me add more details about this.
There are some online applications which can be integrated into QuickBooks. Though we aren't able to provide you with a specific application.
Once you have an application to convert your data from Sage, you can contact their support. This way, they can guide you on how to properly integrate it with QuickBooks.
Please know that you can post again if you have any other concerns.
Are you saying that I should contact Sage and ask them for the online application tool to be able to convert our information to a QBE upload?
Thanks for clarifying.
Rhonda
I'm here to help you more, RhondaL.

I am looking at MoneyThumb Slick Connect???

Thank you for getting back to us here on the Community page, @RhondaL.

Thanks @Angelyn_T I know you and @HoneyLynn_G want to be helpful... and I get the legal stuff...
I don't recommend sending anyone to your conversion link; not helpful
I've looked at the App Center and have read numerous "self-help" articles. Nothing we have tried, yet, has worked.
We will be reaching out to a ProAdvisor, likely
A HUGE shout out to QuickBooks Pro Mike Sheldon in Sacramento, CA [[removed]] for helping me - at no charge - find a company that could actually do the conversion.
After verifying the company through a bit of research and using the TechSoup Forum, we did it! We actually were able to convert even our historical data into Enterprise! [Woot woot!]
Go see https://quickbooksrepairpro.com/Sage-50-to-Quickbooks-Conversion.aspx
There were fast (within 2 days), professional, and exactly what we asked for. Plus their fees were extremely reasonable.
As a side note, at first, I was a little unsure because they do not have a number I can call, but there were QUICK on the draw to answer each e-mail.
After my frustrating ordeal with the conversion links offered here, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND QuickBooks Repair Pro at the link above.
Rhonda
Thanks for your help.
