Repairing / Reinstalling Quickbooks Mac Desktop

This is a reported ongoing issue, @mhjohns.

We've been receiving reports coming from our customers about the crashing of QuickBooks while editing or creating items. This is related to the new update of the macOS Big Sur that was recently released. Currently, our Product Engineers are working diligently to release a patch to resolve this.

In the meantime, I'd recommend contacting our Technical Support team so your name will be added to the affected users' list. Just provide your full name, updated email address, and this investigation number: INV 53063. 

You'd received an email notification once updates are released. Also, let's make sure that your QuickBooks is set to receive automatic updates. Here's how: 

1. Open the QuickBooks drop-down menu.
2. Select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
3. On the prompt window, click Install Update.
4. Hit Install and Relaunch.

If you are running the Big Sur macOS make sure to run QuickBooks->Check for Updates and download any updates available.  The crashes you describe sound like issues with Big Sur that were fixed back in November.

As far as reinstalling - you just drag the QuickBooks application to the trash and then re-install it.  However the QuickBooks application itself is "read-only" - it is never modified when running QuickBooks (other than when it is updated).  There is no reason to reinstall it - you are just putting the same thing back in and potentially wiping out a newer versions if you have updated it. 

I had no issues with the "items" until the latest Quickbook update, after the Big Sur update.  That would lead me to believe the issue was directly related to the Quickbook update.  I was thinking that completely removing the program and reinstalling would fix an issue if there was conflict with the Quickbook update.

I'll share some learning about the Big Sur updates in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. 

I agree with IntuitBrooks that you don't need to reinstall it. Whether or not doing these steps will fix the issue. With this, I'd suggest waiting for the updates. Since our engineering team tirelessly working to find a permanent resolution.
