Buy now & saveI started from scratch with QBO and added Commerce. Should I set up my QBO first? Or doesn't it matter? Thanks!
Hello, @Kiki07.
Let me share with you some information about creating an account in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
I'd recommend setting up the QBO account first and then Commerce. This way, you can easily connect the Commerce account into QBO.
In case you need steps in setting up the two mentioned accounts, you can follow the outlined instructions below.
For QBO:
Visit this page for few simple steps to get our most essential, time-saving features set up: Get Started with QuickBooks Online.
For Commerce:
I'd encourage you to visit our Help Articles and Videos Tutorial for your later reference. These pages contain a lot of questions about handling your business transactions, reports, taxes, and other topics.
Notify me if you have further questions about your account. I'm glad to help you out. Take care always.
Firstly, you have setup your QBO account. You don't have to use QBO Plus or Advanced.

Secondly, open the TG/QBC account. Then connect it from your QBO.

Once both apps are connected, open your TG/QBC account and you will be dropped into your personalized Commerce set up screen checklist. Make sure not importing your product list into your QBO account when setting up the QBO for the first time. You may have 3 ways to add products into TG/QBC later
1. Connect to an eCommerce store (recommended if you have a sales channel)
2. Manually add products (recommended if you only have a few products)
3. Import your products via CSV
I downloaded my QB desktop directly into QBO. I said no to tracking inventory but all the inventory detail was still brought over and loaded into QBO. Will this mess up the commerce? I assume we will have inventory detail loaded in QBO and commerce. How can I fix it? Is there anyway to start over fresh?
Hi tj31,
Thank you for letting us know about this behavior. I'll share information to check this further.
You can actually re-export your desktop data to QuickBooks Online. However, this will no longer make sense because the previous export has already moved the inventory items to your QBO company. Therefore, I recommend checking this behavior with our Support team. That way, they can use a screen-sharing tool to gather more details and to investigate the issue.
Feel free to share an update about your conversation, or comment below if you have other concerns.
If you are using QBO Plus or Advanced, you will need time and effort to change Inventory item to Non-inventory item. I would recommend to migrate your QBD file to QBO Essentials as the first step to make sure no inventory item in your account. Then you may connect your QBO account with TG/QBC account and upgrade your QBO plan to Plus or Advanced once your inventory setting on both apps are completed.
