Suggested Match has started suggesting bills that have already been paid and payments that have already been matched. This is confusing and new, how can I stop it?

I am used to going through all the transactions from my bank feed and matching them to payments or open invoices. Recently, suggested match has started including invoices and payments that have already been matched in my suggestions list.

Similarly, for expenses, suggested match has started suggesting Bills that have already been paid though when it suggests them as a match for an expense it says 'open balance', which is very confusing. When I then look at the bill it is clear it has been paid, so the suggested match is very misleading.

This is new (May/June 2024) it wasn't happening previously.

Is anyone aware of a change that may have caused this?

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue you're experiencing when matching transactions, Katie.

The browser-cached data might be the reason why cleared transactions still appear as suggested matches on your bank feeds. To resolve this, I recommend opening your QuickBooks Online company on another supported browser.

Here's a list of supported web browsers:

  • Google Chrome: version 78 or newer
  • Mozilla Firefox: version 76 or newer
  • Microsoft Edge: version 79 or newer
  • Safari: version 12 or newer (Mac only)
  • Opera: version 68 or newer
  • Samsung: version 10 or newer

Afterwards, head to the Bank transactions page and match a transaction. If everything works smoothly and QuickBooks recognizes the appropriate matches to the transactions, you can go ahead and continue matching on the other browser.

For more info on matching transactions, you can check out this article: Match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

For future reference, here's a guide on ensuring your QuickBooks accounts match your real-life ones: Reconcile workflow.

Let me know how the troubleshooting goes, Katie. Don't hesitate to leave a comment below, and I'll be around for your other QuickBooks-related concerns.

Thank you, but I'm already using the latest version of Google Chrome, so I don't think that's the issue...

I'm glad you came back here, @katie108.

Since you already have the latest version of Google Chrome, I'll be providing other troubleshooting steps to remove the transactions that have already been cleared and still showing in your bank feed when matching.

This time, let's turn off and on the Suggested Match tab. Then, sign out and in on your account to trigger the QuickBooks Online (QBO) system.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting QuickBooks Online (QBO) support to further isolate this issue and find a solution.

Here's how:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon tab.
  2. Select Search, then Contact Us.
  3. Pick Ask about something else.
  4. Type in a brief description of your issue. Then, Continue.
  5. Choose how you want to connect with us. Either Chat or Callback.

If you want to learn how to perform adjusting entries of your match and reconciled transactions, check out this article: Enter an adjusting entry for reconciliation in QuickBooks Online.

For additional questions about matching transactions, leave a reply below. We'll be willing to lend a hand. Keep safe, and have a good one.

I am having the same problem and using a new browser also results in already matched sales receipts being suggested.

I'm here to route you to the team that will help you regarding your matching issue in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Jason.

Currently, we have an ongoing investigation (INV-108909) into the Suggested Match feature that suggests already-matched transactions. Our engineering team is actively working on a solution to address this problem.

In the meantime, I recommend contacting our support team to be added to the list of affected users. Doing so will ensure that you receive timely updates on the progress of this investigation.

Here's how to reach a live representative:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online Company.
  2. Click on the Help button at the top of the page.
  3. Choose the Search tab, then click Contact us.
  4. Type in your concern, and click Continue.
  5. Under Callback, click Have us call you button. This will route you to enter your details.
  6. After that, select Get a call.

Additionally, please reconcile your accounts regularly to keep them accurate and up-to-date.

Let us know if you have other concerns about the suggested match function in QBO. We're here to help you in any way we can.

In the future, if you are going to suggest that customers call support to get put on that list, please provide a reference number in your post. I just spent 20 minutes on hold with your support person who had to track the issue down.

If you had posted a specific reference, that would have saved everyone a lot of time.
