Had Quickbooks 2000 on an old XP machine. Want to transfer it to new Win 11 machine. Lost the original CD, so bought one online. Need to access records from way back then. Other than for inventory, I dont use the program any more as the business was dissolved.
Did the install with the replacement disc, and found that even thogh I can pull up the original serial number, registration number as well as the group number, (from the old machine) I have one digit too many for the serial number.
So I went with the replacement CD sticker number. Install actually went fine. Now I have to get a registration number, and QB and or Intuit are not able to assist.
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can try to complete the task?
ANY insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Without a registration number, you can open your company file for a limited time, correct?
I want to help ensure you're able to access records in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) successfully, bigw1231. Let me share some insight into this concern.
QuickBooks 2000 is incompatible with Windows 11, and attempting to run it on this operating system will lead to issues. To resolve this, consider using a trial of our supported version. This will allow you to access your transaction records and restore your company file from that version.
Here's how to contact support:

Yes. you are correct!
I appreciate the response. I did call and spoke to an agent who was unable to assist me with the registration code. Now I do have the program up and running, I just have only 20+ more times I can open before (I think) it locks me out.
Keep in mind, the company ceased (it was a sole prop) about 2003, and since then, all I truly use the QB2000 for is inventory reporting and valuation. But I am able to access reports, sales invoices, bank deposits, so I dont know why you say it is unstable. Please let me know what I have to stress or test to see this.
Either way, again, I do appreciate the respons
I appreciate the response, but I tries calling support. They said it was too outdated for them to assist.
Keep in mind, I use the program solely for inventory reduction and valuation of remaining inventory.
I was able to get it to install. It works fine, other than I only have 20+ sign ins left. So I am trying to get a registration number so I dont get locked out.
Also, you say its unstable. What specifically should I be looking for or try?
Thanks! And I too hop you have a splendid day!
You are correct.
I appreciate your reply, @bigw1231.
Beforehand, I recognize how beneficial it is for you to have the registration number and install QuickBooks Desktop 2000 on your Windows 11 seamlessly. I'll provide additional information about this.
As my colleague, NinoNorth, mentioned above, the QBDT 2000 has already been discontinued. Thus, we're unable to provide a validation code for product registration. You can consider utilizing a trial of our supported version to access your transactions.
Moreover, unsupported versions won't be able to receive the latest critical security patches and updates. This can cause compatibility issues within your window that affect your experience during the navigation process.
You can refer to this material for more insights: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
Moreover, this handy guide can help install the product moving forward: Install QuickBooks Desktop.
Feel free to leave a comment below if you have more concerns about activating your QBDT. The Community always has your back. Keep safe always.
Your version is ancient and I am not sure Support will provide the activation code. You should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA and they may share a workaround.
@Carneil_C "Thus, we're unwilling to provide a validation code for product registration."
Fixed that for you.
So here is the update..its installed. Quickbooks 2000 on a windows 11 machine. I was able to find all of the necessary info with the assistance of a friend who is old school pc's literate.
So here is the $64000 question...and please keep this in mind...I am using it ONLY for inventory deductions, and physical inventory....
Since I am not concerned with updates, patches, or security issues and this pc will NOT be connected to the internet, what "issues" does one see me having going forward? Realistically, with it behind a dns router and security software on the new pc, truly, I am really not concerned from that aspect.
So what stress test can I perform on the program to try to make it crash?! Then I might be convinced to upgrade, but from my current standpoint, considering is uses, I see no reason. Comments welcome!
I have QB 2001. Had it running on Windows 10 through VirtualBox and setting up Windows 98 system there. I just got a Windows 11 PC. Do you have info on how you installed QB 2000 on Windows 11?

You can directly install QuickBooks Desktop 2000 on Windows 11 as long as you have an install disk, license number, and product number, Kashman. Please note that we no longer provide installation links and CD's for older and unsupported versions, including QuickBooks 2000 and 2001.
However, installing such an outdated version on a modern operating system often leads to significant compatibility and functionality issues.
As mentioned by my previous colleague, QuickBooks Desktop 2000 has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Unsupported versions don't receive critical security patches or updates, which can cause compatibility problems and impact your overall experience when using the software on newer Windows versions. For more detailed information, please refer to the article: QuickBooks Desktop Service Discontinuation Policy.

Does VirtualBox not support Win 11?
It can, but it requires crazy steps to get it to work. That will be my attempt, if nothing else.
Another option, find a QB Desktop 2019 with a non subscription license to upgrade your data and run it on Win 11.
Thanks for this option. Upgrade and use without monkeying around with VirtualBox.
You can contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA via email directly to find an old QB Desktop with no subscription license to upgrade your version.
Thanks for the lead! I checked eBay. Several years ago, you could get older versions of QuickBooks for very little money. Now those older versions are going for $300-$400-$500! I will take a look at the site you posted.
First I had the original install disc as well as the serial number. I am not near the pc where I installed it, but I can tell you that for me and my uses it works just fine, contrary to what others say. I will be back in town in a week, and can give more specifics. But in the meantime, find your original disc and the original serial number. Without those both, sadly you are toast.
I have them both. No problem installing from the disk end. Making it stick in Windows 11 "best way" is the issue. FYI, I have used QB 2001 for personal tracking. I have a mean chart of accounts tracking groceries, auto, insurance... You name it. I have been a freak like that. 🤨 I have had the same financial statement format since the year 2000. The mistake I made was not converting when I could years ago. I have always found a way to get it to work. Can still try to work it with VirtualBox. But I am reaching out to see if there is a better way. Thanks!
