Turning off sounds

Is there a way to just totally silence Quickbooks Desktop? I have gone into the System Sounds dialog box in Windows 10 and answered "None" for all of the Quickbooks actions listed there, but I still get noise when, for example, I save transactions.

I want to listen to something else as I use QB, and I ought to be able to have the program operate silently.

Turning off sounds

Hi there, @Edificare.

I can help you turn off the sounds in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) every time you save a transaction.

Here's how:

1. Go to the Edit menu, and then choose Preferences.

2. From the Preferences window, click General.

3. In the My Preferences window, uncheck the box beside Beep when recording a transaction.

4. Hit OK once done.

That's it! The beep sounds are now off.

For future help, I'm attaching an article below that will give you the answers you need for QuickBooks Desktop: Help article.

Turning off sounds

Hi, @Edificare.

Hope you're doing great. I wanted to see how everything is going about turning off the sound when saving transactions in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) you had yesterday. Was it resolved? Do you need any additional help or clarification? If you do, just let me know. I'd be happy to help you at any time.

Looking forward to your reply. Have a pleasant day ahead!

Hello,

I have unchecked the box several times and hit ok and when I go back in the box is checked again. Any ideas how to fix this?

Let's make sure that you're able to keep the box unchecked, EOTDGDC.

Firs, make sure that you have the latest maintenance release for QuickBooks. This helps us eliminates any bugs that might have caused the settings to not save when closing out the window. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop
  2. Proceed to the Update Now tab, then check the box for Reset Update.
  3. Click Get Updates

Wait for the update to complete. Then, restart your computer and log back in to QuickBooks. Uncheck the box once again and check if it's already saving.

Second, you may need to repair QuickBooks if updating it does not resolve the issue. Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks and open your Windows control panel.
  2. Go to Programs and Features. Then, select Uninstall a program. If you don't see it, select Programs and click Program Features.
  3. Click QuickBooks in the list of programs and choose Uninstall/Change.
  4. Select Continue, then Next.
  5. Look for Repair, then click Next and wait for the process to complete.
  6. Click Finish and restart your computer if prompted.

Just in case the changes are still not saving, you can use the QuickBooks Tool Hub. It works like a one-stop shop tool that can resolve some of the most common program and data issues in QuickBooks.
