Hi PBrown22,
Thank you for the additional details. I understand how challenging this is, especially if you have tons of invoices. I'm here to help you.
Yes, QuickBooks will assign transaction numbers in sequential order, but that's only if there isn't an assigned number on the next invoice. In this case, both users are entering specific numbers already (123 and 456). Therefore, the program should not change the number on the other invoice.
Let's do some steps to resolve the issue.
First, you'll want to update QuickBooks in both locations to fix any damaged program files that may have caused this behavior.
Second, back up the company file and run the Verify and Rebuild data utilities on the host computer where the company file is saved. The other user shouldn't be accessing the file at that point.
If you'll still encounter the same issue after doing the above steps, please contact our QuickBooks Desktop Support. That way, they can use more tools to check this further.

Hello JessT
I had called QB's support and they told me that Multi-User is not intended for 2 people to be logged into the company file completing the same tasks at the same time?? In other words...I can not have two people invoicing at the same time...They can be doing different tasks but not the same task at the same time. This makes no sense to me because I am sure I am not the only company that has more than one person that just does invoicing at the same time. I will try the steps that you listed above and see that helps. The automatic sequential invoicing numbers come up automatically when invoicing. I was actually looking for a way to turn that off but did not see anything?
Hello @Fiat Lux - ASIA
My scenario is pretty similar. I'll have someone working from the company office while I'll be working from my home-office. The company office computer will be a Windows computer and I'll be working on a MAC. I'm currently using quickbooks 2019 for MAC.
Could you further elaborate on the first option you mentioned to A C E S U P? How does it work and how do I set it up?
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
@Anonymous
We found the solution we mentioned earlier to be unstable to run on Parallels. I would recommend installing QB Desktop Pro/Premier for 2 users on the PC. You can access company files at the same time in multiuser mode over the internet on your Mac.
@Fiat Lux - ASIA Thanks for your feedback.
If I understand it correctly, I'd have to install QB desktop premier/pro AND create the initial company file on the pc to be able to access it simultaneously over the internet on my MAC. Is that correct?
@Anonymous
1. First user, install and run QB Desktop Pro/Premier with a license for 2 users on a PC.
2. Setup a private cloud solution on the PC

3. Second user will be able to run QB Desktop and access the company file over the internet in multiuser mode at the same time. You don't need to install QB Desktop program on Mac.
