Upgrade 2011 Pro file to 2022 Enterprise

I'm am trying to upgrade 2011 Pro .QBW files to open in 2022 Enterprise.  I understand they need to be updated every few years.  I downloaded older versions but I cannot find a trial product key to use.  Can someone direct me to where I can find trial keys to do the updates?  Thank you!

Upgrade 2011 Pro file to 2022 Enterprise

I’m here to assist you with upgrading your QuickBooks Desktop 2011, ImpexAmerica.

Before we start, please know that I can only provide you the QuickBooks Enterprise free trial version. You can browse this link to get the application: Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have an accountant who is also using QuickBooks Desktop, they can help upgrading your file. If not, you may need to purchase a single license through this article: Add a user license to your QuickBooks software. Please use the phone number in this page to get in touch with our sales team.

You can download and install QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 2022 through this site: https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products.

In the meantime, I can provide the next step so you can upgrade your file. Once you have the latest version, QuickBooks will ask you to upgrade the 2011 company file the first time you open it in the newer version. Keep in mind, you won't be able to open your company file in your original version of QuickBooks after you upgrade it.

  1. Make sure all users log out of your company file.
  2. Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Select Open or Restore Company if you don't have a company file open. You can also go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  4. Click Open a company file, then Next. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), choose Restore a backup copy and then Local backup.
  5. Browse your computer, find the company file, then select Open.
  6. Sign in to your company file as an admin user.
  7. Before you upgrade, QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can select Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
  8. Click Update Now to start the upgrade.
  9. When QuickBooks finishes, select Done.

You can then open the company file in the new version of QuickBooks Desktop. If you keep your company files on a server, you can now move them back.

If you can't find your company file, open the Windows Start menu and then File Explorer. Search for your company file by name or the .qbw file extension. If you still can't find it, make sure it's not hidden.

If the upgrade fails and you can't open the file, restore the backup from step 7 and try once more. If the upgrade fails again, contact our QuickBooks Desktop Live Team so they can assist you with this.

If you need to move your company files to another folder on your computer, on and off your network, or to another computer, follow the detailed steps in moving your company files to another computer.
