Buy nowIf my client sent me an accountant's copy using QBDT 2019 and then subsequently upgraded his software to QBDT 2022, can I update the QBA file I have from him to 2022 also and be able to import the changes back in? Or am I stuck with the 2019 file without the ability to import changes in to his now upgraded file?
Thanks for reaching out to the Community forum, @Sheri M.
The client and accountant using the Accountant's Copy feature should use the same version or year of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). So if an accountant makes changes using the features that aren't available in the client's version of QBDT, changes will not import to the client's file. That said, upgrading your file when you open an Accountant's Copy in a newer version of QBDT is a need. But don't worry, you can still work on the Accountant's Copy using a different version, as long as the gap between the versions is just one year. And the accountant has a more recent version.

This was not helpful and was nothing more than a cut and paste of a generic statement from a previous comment that I have already read in looking for my answer. Is there anyone else that can specifically answer the question that I actually asked? If I pull the 2019 Accountant's Copy into my 2022 software, will I then be able to import the changes in my clients 2022 software that he upgraded AFTER sending me the accountant's copy?
You can only be able to open the accountant's copy file on QBD Accountant 2019 or 2020. If you don't have any of them, ask your client to send the backup file instead and you will restore it on your QBD 2022.
Thank you. Unfortunately, using another file is not an option. I had done tons of work in the 2019 file and the client upgraded to 2022 without my knowledge and before the change file could be imported. Grrr.
Thanks for the update, @Sheri M.
I'll make sure you can access the changes of your accountant's copy using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), so you can manage your data accordingly.
You can let your client reinstall QBDT 2019 and restore their 2019 backup copy (if there's any). Then, let them import the accountant's copy and then upgrade it to work in the newer version (2022) of QBDT. This way, you can access the changes you've made to the file.
Once you receive your client’s accountant’s copy (.QBX), you need to convert it to an accountant’s copy working file (.QBA), so you can make changes to their books. Make sure to open it using QBDT Accountant (Premier or Enterprise) 2022 version.
For the complete guide in using an accountant’s copy as a working file in QBDT, please refer to this article: Use an Accountant's Copy working file in QuickBooks Desktop.

It seems that you can only offer them to buy an extra service to migrate all new data/transactions from their QBD 2022 file to your working file
