void general journal

Hello All,

I need to periodically void part of a general journal.  I am a scout treasurer using QB Accountant, but I am not an accountant.  In the example I would like to void the first  two lines of the journal.  We carry scout account balances and in some cases the scout does not go on a trip so I thought voiding would be easier.  I usually create a GJ to reverse the first transaction and allow the funds to go back to the respective asset accounts.  I have a picture of what I need to fix.  We would like to reverse/void the first two lines and keep the rest.  I am open to other suggestions.

void general journal

Hi there, Stonemm.

I'd like to share an overview and give you some steps. In QuickBooks, voiding partial lines are unavailable. You can either delete the lines or delete/void the whole journal entry.

To edit and remove the lines in a journal entry, you can follow the steps below. Before doing so, I'd recommend consulting with your accountant for advice.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Company > Make General Journal Entries.
  2. Click Find and enter the NameDateEntry No., or Amount then select Find.
  3. Double-click the journal entry, and highlight the item you wish to remove.
  4. Click the Edit menu at the top and select Delete Line.
  5. Hit Save & Close to record the changes.

Please see this sample screenshot for reference:

For deleting and voiding the transaction, you can check out this article for the instructions: Create a journal entry in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'm just a few clicks away if you have any additional questions or concerns. Take care and stay safe.
