Buy now & saveWe are receiving a message that we need to update QuickBooks 24 Enterprise due to a Critical Update by May 31st. I am trying to figure out if all Updates to like Upgrades, where we have to install the newer version on all workstations and the server in order for all users to function properly.
Defining Update vs Upgrade in this context.
- Upgrade would be when we upgrade from QuickBooks 23 Enterprise to QuickBooks 24 Enterprise, the first set of numbers on the version are changed.
- Update would be when the subversions are pushed out for the QuickBooks 24 Enterprise. IE going from Version 24.0.1.2 to Version 24.1.2.3.

Hi there, HamptonJP. I'm here to share some clarifications regarding in updating QuickBooks Enterprise for workstations.
Yes, you need to update and upgrade the new version on all workstations, and server for all users. This will provide you with a better experience and help fix any issues.
In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), once a company file is being updated to a higher version, you can no longer open it in the older version. Having multiple users on different computers is only applicable within the same versions.
Furthermore, here's an article in case you wish to move your program to another computer: Create and open portable company files in QuickBooks Desktop.

Hi, Do I need to uninstall version 23 first from each workstation before install 24? Is there a particular order i need to proceed?
thanks,
You don't need to uninstall your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2023 as you install version 2024, Thuan. Let me explain why you can download the newer version without deleting the old application.
When downloading a newer version, uninstalling the older software will not be necessary since it can coexist on your desktop as long as it does not exceed your storage capacity. Before proceeding, ensure your computer meets the system requirements and create a backup company file. This will allow you to restore it if necessary while downloading the new version.
Afterward, you can download the QBDT version from the QuickBooks website or update it manually through your company file. To do this, navigate to the QuickBooks menu, select Check for QuickBooks Updates, and then click Install and Relaunch.
