Applying Yelp Coupon to Sales Receipt

Hello-

I  have Yelp Coupon for a customer sales receipt

The customer received $200 off there service - Total bill $439.99 with coupon total $239.99

Yelp gives the business a check $119 - Yelp charges service fee $81 of the $200 that they keep

I'm trying to figure out how to apply the Yelp check and service fee. I wasn't sure if I just added to the sales receipt or is this a journal entry?

Thanks

Mariann

Applying Yelp Coupon to Sales Receipt

Let me help you record the Yelp Coupon for a customer sales receipt, MP11.

The sales receipt will not affect the Account Receivable (A/R). What we can do is create a bank deposit for $200 affecting the bank and equity account. then, take note that it is from the Yelp coupon.

  1. On the Homepage, click Record Deposits / Make Deposits.
  2. In the Payments to Deposit window, select the payments you want to combine. Then tick OK.
  3. In the Make Deposits window, select the account you want to put the deposit into from the Deposit to dropdown.
  4. Check the deposit total. Make sure the account and selected payments match the deposit slip from your bank. Just use your deposit slip as a reference.
  5. Enter the date you made the deposit at your bank.
  6. Add a memo that it is from the Yelp coupon.
  7. Press Save & Close.

For more details about this one, see the Record and make bank deposits in the QuickBooks Desktop article. Then, create a journal entry to move the $119, credit, equity, debit, and A/R of the customer. In this case, we recommend contacting your accountant for more details on what posting account you'll need to apply when creating a journal entry.

Once done, in either Pay Bills or Receive Payments, link the Journal Entries together. To learn more about receiving payments for an invoice, see the Record an invoice payment article. Feel free to visit our Sales and customers page for more insights about managing your company's income and customers.

Please update us on the result of this troubleshooting in the comment below. I'd like to ensure this is resolved for you. You have a good one.

Applying Yelp Coupon to Sales Receipt

Thank you for the insight on this.

I originally created the $119 deposit. The explanation on JE accounts really helped me out.  I was stuck if I had to record anything for the $81 but it looks like I don't.

Appreciate all you provided.
