Credit Card Payment on Hold

I had a customer pay me with a credit card and the payment has been put on hold.  The reason is a "random review."  The hold has been in place for over a week.

Why do they need to review?  A payment is a payment.  Do they suspect fraud?  What is fraudulent about a credit card payment.  They have already charged my customer, so they have my money.  Can I demand that Intuit pay interest?  Also, why is there no way to communicate with them directly?

Credit Card Payment on Hold

Hello, Jonnybegood.

It is important to have the right expectations on when the funds will be available to your bank account.

When funds are on hold, we will request some information from you. Once the details are provided, the review is typically completed within 2 business days. Also, there are instances where we hold payments if we notice something unexpected in them. We do this to protect you from fraud and make sure your customer is safe as well.

On the other hand, if you void a transaction prior to batching, the credit card may be placed on hold for around 7-10 days (or up to 30 days, depending on the cardholder's issuing bank policies).

I've got this article for more details: Understanding Payment Holds

On the other hand, I recommend reaching out to our Customer team. Since the Community is a live forum that all users can use and chime in on. Therefore, we're unable to review your account here.

To reach out to our Merchant Service Team, you can click on the Chat with us link in this article: Contact Payments or Point of Sale Support.

Additionally, to learn when QuickBooks deposits customer payments into your bank account when using QuickBooks Payments, please see this link: Find out when QuickBooks Payments deposits customer payments.

Fill me in if you have further questions about customer payments or anything else about QBO. I'm always around if you need any help.

Credit Card Payment on Hold

Hey @Jonnybegood ,

Sorry you're having that experience with Intuit Merchant Services. You're definitely not alone, it's one of the major reasons businesses outgrow Quickbooks payments eventually. Intuit is a Payment Facilitator built upon First Data merchant services, as a sub-merchant you are subject to their frustrating funding delays and holds.

If you're looking at alternatives to QB Payments a couple methods are 1. Melio (Stripe Reseller) and 2. Going directly to First Data.

  • Coming directly to First Data gives you a real merchant account with a bank underwritten agreement.
    • When done properly, you avoid funding delays and gain access to the wholesale "interchange" cost.
    • US-based customer support is available by phone 24-7
    • We live sync invoices and payments both ways with QBO, so you don't have to manually mark invoices as paid.
    • If you want to view a demo, check out my calendar at this link: https://calendly.com/teddycc/online-demo

Best of luck!
