Buy nowHi Jason!
Thank you for getting a new QuickBooks Online plan! I'm happy to share the steps to connect your existing Merchant (QB Payments) account.
Please note that your QB Payments account will auto-adopt the login credentials of your QuickBooks account once it's connected. That's what you'll use when logging in to Merchant moving forward. Learn more about connecting a QB Payments account to QBO.
I'm only a comment away if you have more questions about linking QB Payments to QuickBooks. Have a good day!
I already pay for a Merchant Service Credit Card Processor. Can I load it onto my Quickbooks Commerce Account?
Thank you for joining the conversation, Ernesto!
Using credit card processors on QuickBooks Commerce is not an option right now. We can only do this to QuickBooks Online with the use of the Go Payment app.
If you have any other questions in mind, feel free to go back to this thread. I'm just around to help you again.
Hello,
I have been a loyal QuickBooks Online subscriber for over five years and have successfully grown two businesses using your software for all my accounting needs. Recently, I opened a new QuickBooks account to keep things clean and organized while avoiding potential duplicates. I also retained my old subscription as a backup.
Over the past year, I invested considerable effort restructuring my system and building a robust chart of accounts.
However, I am now encountering significant challenges as I attempt to connect my old merchant account to my new QuickBooks account to retain the features and benefits I’ve been grandfathered into as a long-term customer.
Here’s the issue:
Old Account: This account displays the option to connect another merchant account, but when I click on it, I receive a message stating that I already have an account.
New Account: This is the account where I want to carry over the old merchant account. However, there is no option to connect an existing merchant account—only an option to create a new one.
I have spent nearly 15 hours this week working with your support team and troubleshooting independently to resolve this, but I am still unable to achieve what should be a straightforward task.
Could you please provide clear instructions on how to connect my existing merchant account to my new QuickBooks account? Additionally, I want to emphasize that I no longer need my old business account, so I hope this will not be cited as the cause of the issue.
Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your prompt response to help me resolve this matter.
Best regards,
Frank S
Hello there, @fdBanzai.
I appreciate your efforts in managing your merchant account as you transition to your new QuickBooks Online account. Your ease in handling transactions is important, and I’m here to guide you through and ensure a seamless connection.
To begin, a merchant account in QuickBooks can only be linked to one QuickBooks Online (QBO) account at any given time. This is known as a 1:1 relationship, meaning one merchant account is dedicated to one QBO account. This setup ensures that all financial transactions processed through the merchant account are accurately recorded and managed within a single QBO account, preventing any confusion or errors that could arise from multiple linkages.
Thus, you will have to unlink the Merchant Account from the new QBO Account first. However, since the Community is a public forum where anyone can see your input. Therefore, these types of concerns are best routed to our Merchant support team for further assistance. QuickBooks support can provide step-by-step guidance and troubleshooting to ensure a smooth transition and connection.
You'll be able to successfully disconnect your merchant account from the old QBO account and reconnect it to the new one, ensuring they retain all features and benefits associated with the merchant account. Let me walk you through the process:

Thank you for your response and the clarification regarding the 1:1 relationship between Merchant accounts and QuickBooks Online (QBO) accounts. I fully understand this limitation; however, the main issue I’m encountering is that my new QBO account does not currently have a Merchant account connected to it.
The only option available in my new QBO account is to create a new Merchant account, which would result in losing the features and benefits tied to my existing Merchant account. This is not a viable solution for my business.
I’ve already spent nearly two days working with your support team on this matter, but unfortunately, no progress has been made. This issue is now critically urgent as I have multiple pending invoices that I need to process immediately to avoid further cash flow delays.
I kindly request expedited support to resolve this issue. If there are specific steps to enable my new QBO account to link to my existing Merchant account, please provide detailed guidance. I need to ensure the seamless continuation of my business operations without losing the advantages of my current Merchant account.
Thank you for understanding the urgency of this matter, and I look forward to your prompt assistance.
Best regards,
Frank
