I want to stop processing credit cards and stop paying for PCI. How do I do this?

I am done with paying for PCI insurance and all the things I must do to be compliant.  I am a one person show and the requirements are crazy.  I want to STOP processing credit cards and stop paying for the insurance.  I cannot find where to do this.  Please inform me on the process of deleting the ability to take credit cards.

I want to stop processing credit cards and stop paying for PCI. How do I do this?

Hi there, HBANCL.

I'd be glad to share some information on how to disable credit card payments in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

We can simply stop credit card payments from processing through the Payment method. Let me walk you through the steps:

  1. Go to the List menu, select Customer & Vendor Profile Lists, and click Payment Method List.
  2. Right-click the credit card payment you'll want to disable.
  3. Select Edit Payment Method and select the Method is inactive checkbox. Then, select OK.

Note: Once inactive, the method will continue to appear in reports, but won’t be available when processing a payment.

If you have other questions about processing customer invoices and payments, you can check out this page: Take and process payments with QuickBooks Payments.

How do you disable Credit Card Protection?  My desktop 2022 QB Pro won't let me disable it.  Is there a work around?

This option on my companies quickbooks is not available to me. I can go as far as that screen but the option "disable" is greyed out and I can not click on it. What do I do at the point? Every 90 days everyone in the office has to change your login passwords and it's become a very frustrating and tedious thing to do. Especially because most people in the office don't remember their passwords all the time.

I can see how important it is for you to disable credit card protection in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @Islandfence_tec. Allow me to route you in the right direction so you can achieve the task.

Before doing so, let's install and run QuickBooks Tool Hub to isolate this issue. This tool helps fix common issues in the program. To begin with, let's download and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub and save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
  3. Locate the QuickBooksToolHub.exe file that you downloaded and open it.
  4. Please follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation, then agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

After that, proceed to these steps to run a quick repair on your program:

  1. Choose Program Problems in the tool hub.
  2. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

For more information, check out this link: Run Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tools Hub.

If the button is still greyed out, your QuickBooks Payment may be linked to a different account. To verify, I recommend reaching out to our Payment Support team. They have all the necessary tools to take a look at your account and further investigate the issue.

Moreover, I'm adding this article as your guide if you want to locate your deposits and fees in the Merchant Service Center: Find transactions, deposits, or fees in the Merchant Service Center.
