I was just chatting with a QBO representative over the phone a couple weeks ago. They said that Convenience Fees were now working again as of December 2021. When I went to start invoicing today, I noticed that Convenience Fee's are no longer an option with online payments. Where did the convenience fees feature go? Why do you not have it anymore? It disappeared on the invoices and disappeared in the Sales settings.
Convenience Fees feature worked great through 2020 and up until February/March 2021 when y'all discontinued the feature. I was so happy to hear that y'all brought it back in December 2021, but why is it gone again? Is February cursed for the convenience fees feature?
We literally only turned online payments back on because we heard it was up and running again. Are you going to bring it back??? Please do.
Hi there, @fix-please.
I appreciate you reaching out to us in the Community and sharing the details of your concern. I'm here to provide information about the convenience fees in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
The convenience fee is a beta feature that allows QBO to calculate and add the amount automatically. We're unable to continue to roll it out in this format due to requirements from the card brand network. Please know that we're looking for an alternative way to offer this feature ongoing in the future.
In the meantime, you'll want to create a service item for the convenience fee and manually add it as a line item on your customer's invoice as a workaround.
Here's how:
I can see how having this option would be helpful for you and your business. I highly suggest sending feedback directly to our product developers. They're always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QuickBooks.
You can refer to this article for the steps on how to submit feedback: How do I submit feedback?
In case you need it, I'll add this article that tackles entering late fees in QBO: Add service fees manually to invoices.
For tips and other resources, I recommend visiting our website for future reference: QBO self-help articles.
Please let me know if you have additional questions about fees or anything else QuickBooks. I'm always ready to lend a hand. Stay safe.
If the convenience/surcharge fee is critical for your business,, explore a 3rd party payment processor or merchant service. Are you running a B2B or B2C company?
I'm confused... Why would I add a convenience fee and manually add it as a line item if I'm not sure if the customer is going to pay by check? This is not a work around solution. You cannot add a convenience fee on an invoice without knowing for certain the customer wants to pay with credit card. Why would you completely take away the convenience fee option without notifying QuickBooks online account holders. We need the convenience fee option back!
100% agree
Hi,
Starting February 14th, 2022 we're removing convenience fees from QuickBooks Online.
This change won't impact your past invoices, but you won't be able to create invoices with convenience fees moving forward.
Convenience fees were incorrectly applied as an overpayment to your invoice. Review your recent invoices to make sure payments were applied correctly and that your books are accurate.
If you have any questions, sign into your QuickBooks Online account, open the Help option, select Search and click Contact Us.
The QuickBooks Online Invoicing Team
The underlined statement above is incorrect. When QB remove the convenience fee option on 2/14/2022, it also removed ALL convenience fees on past invoices as well. We had 100's of open invoices that had already been sent to clients that included the convenience fee if they wished to pay via CC. We would have never known to turn the CC payment feature off as it stated that it wouldn't impact your past invoices. We have lost a significant amount of money this week and I cannot get anyone from QB management to return our calls. I would like our money back.
If anyone had already sent invoices prior to 2/14/2022 with the convenience feature turned on, you might want to start looking into it.
Who would you recommend? My understanding is that Bill.com can integrate directly with QBO.
We also lost hundreds of dollars back in 2021 because they did not communicate to us that convenience fees were no longer working. I attempted to contact QBO many times, but was just bounced around. Eventually, someone told me that we could not get reimbursed even though this is obviously QBO's error.
We also want our money back from what we lost due to QBO's lack of due diligence.
We also had open invoices when QBO turned off convenience fees for online payments, so we also lost money with our most recent online payments.
Why did they turn this off? This is a huge inconvenience and you did not even communicate with QKBK users that you were turning this feature off. This needs to be turned back on ASAP.
I'm not sure but I can't agree more. QuickBooks should have gave some warning and or provided an alternative. There is no solution. Most of the people at QuickBooks have no idea what they are doing, so you don't really get much help. Hopefully they can turn that feature back on or offer a fix.
Hello, OMG3.
I can see the importance of using the Convenience fee feature on your business. I also wouldn't let go of a feature, especially if it automates a complicated task.
I'd like to take this opportunity to provide some information about the discontinuation and your options in recording the fees.
As what my colleague had mentioned, we're discontinuing the Convenience fee due to the requirements from the card brand network.
In addition, there was also an issue where the fees were incorrectly applied as an overpayment to the invoices.
However, our developers might be working on implementing a similar and better option for convenience fees in QuickBooks Online.
I would also recommend sending feedback to our developers regarding the convenience fees. In QuickBooks Online, go to the Gear icon, then select Feedback.
Though, you have the option to manually record the convenience fee. This is done by creating a service item for the fee, the adding it to your invoices.
When you create an invoice, add the service item and enter the fee.
In addition, I'd also recommend looking for a third-party app that works and integrates well with QuickBooks Online and the Payments services. Simply go to the Apps menu, then look for an app.
You can also visit this page: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/.
If you need to check on your profit comparison after recording those invoices, you can read this article for a guide: Run a Profit and Loss Comparison Report.
I'm here to help if you have other questions about recording your transactions. I'll also hear you out if you have other concerns regarding the features in QuickBooks.
Agree, too. This sounds like grounds for a civil law suit if you ask me. By not contacting the business owners (who are the ones effected in a negative manner), it's theft.
Sounds like class action to me
This is a terrible answer. "Hearing someone out", doesn't accomplish anything if you don't take action. This issue needs to be taken care of yesterday. My business is on it's way out the door.
Where is the official documentation stating that they discontinued this feature with all the details of when they discontinued it?
Do you have any screen shots of old feature in the settings?
Anyone that can help please do so. Thanks
Nice to have you join this thread, @daveGum. I've got some additional information about this feature in QuickBooks Online.
We see how this feature can be beneficial to you and your business. However, as provided by my colleagues above, the convenience fee is only a beta feature of the QuickBooks Online program. That said, there's no official document, as it was a business decision to discontinue the beta feature.
Also, please see the screenshot below for the reference of the old feature:
In addition, you might consider checking out this article in case you might want to consider manually entering service fees to invoices: Manually add service fees to invoices in QuickBooks Online.
I'm always ready to assist you if you have any other questions about managing invoices or QBO-related concerns. Tag me in your reply, and I'll sprint back into action. Have a good one, and keep safe.
Is there a 3rd party app available for the convenience fees for desktop users?
Is there a 3rd party APP available for desktop users? If so, can you please direct me to that site.
Thanks,
Hi there, @Skywire1.
We don't recommend any apps for convenience fees for desktop users. Although, we can route you to the page to find a QuickBooks-integrated app that supports this feature.
Please check out this link to search for the app: https://desktop.apps.com/home
If you need related resources while working with QuickBooks, please feel free to skim through the topics from our help articles.
Please let me know how else I can help you with QuickBooks. I've got your back and am always happy to help. Keep safe!
Do you still need to use QB Payments but can charge clients a convenience fee or would you prefer to switch to a third party merchant service provider? Are you running a B2B or B2C company?
Yes I would like to use the integrated app to assess the convenience fees, can you direct me to this and provide documentation on the set up and maintenance for this?
You can send me a private message for details.
