I got you covered, esch4health.

You can sort your inventory list with these steps:

  1. Click Lists on the menu.
  2. Select Items.
  3. On the Item List window, click the Gear icon located at the bottom left corner.
  4. Select Hierarchical View, and Enable Custom Ordering.

Check out this article for future reference: Add, edit, and delete items

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks for that info. So it doesn't automatically alphabetize the lists, I do that one at a time, correct?

Thanks for the information. I think I tried that but assumed there was somewhere that would automatically alphabetize the list for me. Does anything like that exist or do I just need to do this manually?

I'm grateful for the update that you gave regarding the steps that you've taken, @esch4health.

Let's re-sort your inventory list so items will show up alphabetically.

You can click on Edit at the top and press on Resort. This process will arrange your list alphabetically. Here's a link that you can scan through for more troubleshooting steps for lists issues in QuickBooks Desktop: Find out how re-sorting helps you with your lists in QuickBooks Desktop.

However, if the problem continues, I recommend verifying and rebuilding your data to help fix data damage on your company file.

To do that:

  1. Select File, then select Utilities.
  2. Select Verify Data, then select OK to close all windows.
  3. If you see “Your data has failed the integrity check” you need to rebuild your file. If there are no problems with your data, you’re done.

After that, you'll need to proceed with rebuilding the data:

  1. Select File, then select Utilities.
  2. Press on Rebuild Data, then select OK to close all windows.
  3. QuickBooks will ask to make a backup before rebuilding your company file, select OK. If you don’t want to do a backup, select Cancel to continue rebuilding your company file.
  4. Once the rebuild's finished, select OK.

For complete details about this procedure, you can refer to this article: Learn how to verify and rebuild your data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Let me know on how things turn out. I'll make sure you're all set. Have a lovely day!

Actually, I figured it out! If I select Hierarchical View and de-select Enable Custom Ordering, it automatically goes to alphabetical order! WooHoo!
