Exactly! Eliminating Scan Manager was a bum move by Intuit. By dropping Scan Manager, Intuit has created extra work for every customer that used it. It seems Intuit is moving away from their larger customers and focusing on the Mom and Pops. We had successfully delayed moving to the parent's SAP platform but now I think we'll just go for it.
Well said. Dumping Scan Manager was irritating to say the least. I do hope more users register their complaints here. Still there is no good excuse for having done it without warning.
Agreed!! I suppose they know what their doing but I don't like it just the same. I too hope they lose customers over this move.
Discontinuing Scan Manager is a huge disappointment. Did Intuit issue a warning this was going to happen? Had I known I never would have upgraded. As a matter of fact, can we roll back to the older version? If so that would be great. Intuit should refund some of that money they took from us for a scaled back product.
Hi there, Lordway.
I can see the importance of being able to scan and attach documents to transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.
As mentioned by my colleague above, the Scan Manager feature was discontinued in QuickBooks Desktop 2022. You can still be used it in previous, currently supported versions.
In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), we're unable to downgrade a company file once it's updated. This means we won't be able to open your updated company file in the old version.
Though, we can restore a backup copy of your company file if you have one. Let's also make sure you and the accountant are on the same QuickBooks version or there's at least a gap of 1 year.
Here's how to restore your company file:
For the detailed steps, refer to this link: Restore a backup of your company file.
I've added this article to give you information about the latest enhancements made for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Enterprise 2022, you can check out this article: New and improved features in QuickBooks Desktop 2022.
I got your back if you have any other concerns. I'll make sure you're taken care of. Have a good one!
I've scanned several documents to upload to the 2022 Enterprise, but they are not showing up in the documents uploaded from mobile. Any suggestions to trouble shoot this?
Thanks,
I've got the steps you need to isolate and fix this issue, @
kcollinsworth.
Let's start by ensuring you've updated your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to the latest release to ensure the program is up to date. I'll show you how.
You can also check this link for more details: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
Once done, re-upload your receipts. Ensure to have the image in JPEG, JPG, GIF, or PNG format. This way, the receipts will be visible in your QBDT. You can also check out this link for the complete details: Upload receipts to QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus or Enterprise.
If the issue persists, I suggest running the Verify Rebuild tool. This scans your company file for issues and quickly resolved them.
Furthermore, I'm adding this link that can aid you in reconciling your accounts seamlessly: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.
In case you have any follow-up questions about uploading receipts in QBDT, you're always welcome to post them in your reply. I'll be more than happy to help you anytime. Keep safe!
How do we "snap" multiple page bills? The mobile app only lets me take a photo of one page, then gives the only option of "use this photo". I have many vendors who send multiple page bills that need to be uploaded.
Hello there, MRF13579.
I know how uploading multiple receipts to QuickBooks is convenient for you. . That way, you can review your receipts and bills at once. For now, I suggest submitting feedback directly to our product engineers. They may look into this suggestion and consider adding the option in the future update.
To submit feedback, here's how:

I couldn't agree more! I was told I needed to upload QB Enterprise 22 to print the new 1099-NEC format only to discover I lost Scan Manager. I also scan in hundreds of invoices a month and taking the extra steps to load them is ridiculous. QBDT needs to do right and bring that feature back.
It has been months since I first complained about Intuit having dropped Scan Manager from QuickBooks and still not word from the company about bringing it back. Now I have earned "badges" for having posted my complaints about having their dropped Scan Manager. "We don't need no stinkin' badges!" We want Scan Manager back and we want it now, not later.
This will not happen. Intuit is pushing to discontinue the desktop version at a later date. Just look at the disparity between leasing online versions compared to desktop, this on the Canadian Site. Even the add on programs that I use have the same wide pricing in their software. They know what’s coming and also are directing to online rather than desktop.
Unfortunately it is the direction everyone is going with software, online with monthly leasing.
Like you I wish it was not the issue we are facing today.
I think if someone writes a desktop accounting version they would do well
Not everyone in the company should have access outside the office on their phone to Quickbooks - that is why the scan manager is so important to the personnel in the office. IT makes not sense that now we have to download a app on phones to scan into Quickbooks when we don't want our office staff to have this access outside the office. I hope QuickBooks/Intuit see that this option is important to have & puts it back. The mobile idea is great - but not great for all staff.
I do not like the loss of the Scan Manager either. They also dropped the Loan Manager, which I use for all my loans. Now, I will have to post all loans by hand, breaking out P&I. But back to the Scan Manager. I scan everything, which is what most people/companies do these days. The world is all digital. Why would they discontinue this? Having to do it from the cell phone -- so time consuming as well as other issues already listed by other people.
This is my problem. I cannot access any invoices previously scanned into QB 2019. When I pull up the bill, it shows no attachment. When I click on "Attach file", my pdf is there, but I can't open it. Just says "Failed to open file. The specified file was not found." I will figure out how to make things work going forward; however, I have to be able to access the pdf's that were previously scanned in. I've had this job 3 years, and every invoice for those 3 years was scanned into QB. Help!!
This isn't what I want you to experience with QuickBooks, @baumgarner1973. I'm here to share some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue where you can't see the attachments in your invoices in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
First off, please ensure that your QBDT is updated to the latest release.
Then let's run QBDT as Administrator. Here's how:
If the issue persists, we can download QuickBooks Tool Hub to get your attachments working again as normal. This built-in utility can fix common errors you encounter when using QBDT.
Then, you may refer to Step 3 of this article to continue the process: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.
Also, please keep in mind that QuickBooks backup doesn't include attached documents if you did so. You'll have to manually backup the Attach folder, which can be found in the same location as your company file. You can visit this article that answers frequently asked questions about the QuickBooks Document Center: QuickBooks Document Center: FAQs and common issues.
In addition, you can create a backup copy of your files. You may do this either manually or through an automatic process. This way, you can restore them at any time and prevent data loss in the future.
Please let me know if you need other help with managing your invoices in QBDT, @baumgarner1973. I'm always here to help you out. Keep safe!
Hi Kevin. I did all the suggestions and nothing worked. However, I've worked on this all day and finally figured out my issue -- anyway. Maybe it will help others.
Under my file location for my QB 2019 version, there is an "Attach" folder containing two folders: Inbox and Txn, which contained all my prior-to-upgrade pdf's. Under my file location for my QB 2022 version, there is also an "Attach" folder, which has nothing in it other than two folders: Inbox and Txn. Every time I tried the Repair Attached Doc Links, it was pulling in nothing because it is pulling from the current version file. Long story short, I copied the docs from QB 2019 "Attach" folder to the QB 2022 "Attach" folder appropriately into the Inbox and Txn folders. Then opened my QB application. Went to company file; Documents; Repair Attached Documents Links; Repair Links. You get a prompt when complete. Close the Repair window. Go back to the Doc center and see if you can open any pdf. I hope I didn't leave out a step. I hope this helps other folks that are just as frustrated as I was earlier. Going forward I will save/scan docs to my hard drive and then attach to my invoices when I enter them into QB 2022.
Quit pushing an option that is NOT functional if you are needing to scan in multiple pages! Not an efficient use of anyone's time
The mobile scanner using your phone is completely worthless. No amount of verifying, rebuilding, or going to the help menu to submit feedback will change that. Intuit, toss that hot garbage where it belongs and start from scratch.
I can not believe this. Had I known they were going to discontinue the scan manager I probably would not have upgraded to 22. I scan tons of documents into QuickBooks and now it is going to take twice as long to save them to a folder on my computer and then attach and resave, not to mention the amount of memory it's going to take up..
Soooo....Now companies are forced to....
A: Ask their employees to use their cell phones to scan receipts in? Not professional.
B: Scan everything into a random file somewhere and then attach from there. Which takes double the time.
Wow Quickbooks.......
I agree whole heartily. deleting the scan manager has made my job 10x harder this was the stupidest thing I have ever seen intuit do
if they are forcing use to the online version I will just purchase another accounting software like Peach Tree. they help their customers instead of causing them pain.
I found something that works for me.....maybe it will you too! I have my neat software running constantly and I just scan all my papers to pre-set up folders that I have set up for every company. This way if I ever need to attach or access a paper, I know where to find it. Its actually quicker than the old way and way quicker than using the phone. I also make sure that these folders are being backed up.
I do appreciate this as a good idea.
I do this also, but some of my clients want the documents attached.
I know you can attach them from the folders, and I suppose the whole point is this all just takes longer, and why?
If something is truly an upgrade is should enhance productivity, not impeded it.
Sooner than I want to realize, we will not be needed at all.
Thank you for your help:)
I think we may be getting pushed out of desktop, by making the program less functional, thereby less appealing.
Lets face it, those of us on Desktop, and almost every CPA I have encountered, agree Desktop is more robust, not to mention dependable.
With inexpensive remote login services, like Splashtop for 60 per year, the selling point of the online platform is negated.
This is just my two cents, for what it is worth.
