Selecting a different paper tray for printing checks

With the desktop product we were able to configure the check printing process to select tray 3 for checks.  With being forced to use the on line product we cannot figure out how to select tray three for printing checks.  We don't want to switch paper and checks all the time.  We have regular paper in tray 2 for reports, and checks in tray 3.  We cannot find a printer setup option to configure to checks to pull from tray 3.

And of course at 8:30am EST, there is no live human support to assist with answering this.

Agreed 100%.  Desktop is far superior.  Desktop went to an annual subscription in 2022, but it's still less expensive than QB Online.  And, there are QB Desktop file sharing apps that allow you to easily share your company file(s) between multiple locations.  I'd consider switching back.  Intuit sold $1.9B of QB Desktop accounting software and related supplies in 2021 - it isn't going away.  With it becoming subscription-based in 2022, sales will only grow from there.

Yeah, this is yet another reason why QB Desktop is a superior product.  BTW, it was not necessary to switch,  QuickBooks Desktop is not going anywhere.  Online is Desktop 'Lite'.

I asked if desktop was still available, and I was told multiple times that I had to go this way.  I absolutely find the product a failure.

Selecting a different paper tray for printing checks

Hi there, kirk48906.

I'm here to share information about printing checks in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Currently, the ability to choose your preferred paper tray when printing checks is unavailable in QBO. I can see how having this option would be helpful for you and your business. I highly suggest sending feedback directly to our product developers. They're always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QuickBooks.

Here's how to send feedback:

  1. In QBO, go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2.  Click Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then select Next to submit feedback.

For more information about managing and printing checks in QBO, consider checking out these articles:

I also recommend visiting our website for more tips and other resources you can use in the future: Self-help articles.

Let me know if you have additional questions about printing or anything else QuickBooks. I'll be more than willing to help. Take care always.

Selecting a different paper tray for printing checks

A couple of days ago, my office upgraded to Quickbooks version 24, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't allow you to assign different trays for reports/checks.

Can someone please help me set this up or point me to a version that still has this feature.

Thanks for joining the thread,@AnfernyReloded. allow me to chime in and share insights about assigning different trays for reports or checks in QuickBooks.

Since you've upgraded to QuickBooks Desktop 2024, you'll need to reset and configure your printer properties to assign different trays for reports and checks. You may want to consult your IT expert to guide you through the process. Additionally, you can use other versions of QuickBooks as long as they are set up properly and have the ability to assign different trays.

To reset the default printer in Windows, follow the steps below:

  1. From the Start button, select Settings (or Control Panel) > Printers and Faxes.
  2. From the Printers and Faxes dialog window, right-click on a working printer.
  3. Select Set as Default Printer. Close the Windows Printer and Faxes window.
  4. Open QuickBooks and open the Printer Setup window to verify changes.

In case you're unable to reset the default printer, right-click the printer name and delete it. For detailed instructions, open this link: When printing from QuickBooks, the Printer Setup window does not open.

Once the issue is resolved, you can utilize these resources to guide you in printing checks and customizing reports in QuickBooks Desktop:
