1099 Detail Report threshold issue

Hi there, @courtenayheather.

Thank you for joining the thread. I can share with you some information about running the 1099 reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

The 1099 Summary report gives you a summary of your 1099 information. You can either filter it to Use thresholds or Ignore thresholds. On the other hand, the 1099 Detail report gives each detail of your contractors' transactions. For now, you can manually exclude the names that fall under the $600 threshold.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Customize Report tab, then click on Filter.
  2. Search for Preferred Vendor, then click on Multiple vendors.
  3. Choose the vendor you want to display, then exclude the names that do not meet the threshold.
  4. Hit OK.

For more tips about running and customizing reports, I recommend checking out the details from this link: Understand reports.

Moreover, here are some of our help articles you can open for additional guides when preparing and filing Federal 1099s:

If you have any other questions about 1099 and other reports in QuickBooks Desktop, please let me know by adding a comment below. I'm always here to help. Have a great day!

1099 Detail Report threshold issue

Thank you for the information Angelyn! Although this work around kinda defeats what I'm trying to accomplish - it would be a wonderful feature if in the future they could include the same threshold feature they have in the summary report in the detailed report as well. Thanks again for your time in responding to me, it's greatly appreciated!

1099 Detail Report threshold issue

Hi Rasa-LilaM,

Looking back at your posting of January 28, 2019  where you wrote "I want to ensure the 1099s will only show vendors who meet the threshold. I’ve looked into this further and there isn't currently any open investigations about 1099 reports showing vendors who didn’t reach the limit"

We greatly appreciate your evident interest to make sure this is fully resolved.

I'd like to draw your attention to issues in this area which do still exist:

1.   When producing a 1099-NEC Detail Report, it still includes Vendors who do not meet the $600 threshold, and I don't see any way provided by QuickBooks to exclude these Vendors. Filtering for Amounts less than $600 is not appropriate, as that removes transactions that should not be excluded. We need to be able to filter for "Totals" less than $600.

2.  With the IRS's new initiative with IRIS we need to be able to report all 1099-NEC Vendors including their full addresses, to be compatible with the IRIS 1099-NEC template. Currently QuickBooks doesn't allow the addition of the Vendor's address to the 1099 Summary Report.

3.  It seems the only way to get the 1099 data for the report required for IRIS, is to export the Detail Report from QuickBooks, including addresses, to Excel and then manually delete all the transaction lines !! This would seem a bit ridiculous, don't you think..

Can we get some assurance from QuickBooks that these issues are being addressed?

A huge thank you to you for your assistance,

(removed)

1099 Detail Report threshold issue

I completely understand how frustrating it must be to navigate these challenges, especially with the recent IRS changes and the need for accurate reporting, Piper. Let's ensure your threshold is not set to zero that's why vendors with $0.00 are appearing on the report.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Edit at the menu bar.
  2. Choose Preferences from the drop-down button.
  3. Select Tax:1099 from the left panel and to to Company Preferences.
  4. Select the link under If you want to map your accounts to boxes on form 1099-NEC.
  5. Click Yes. Then, click the Show IRS 1099-NEC filling thresholds link on the Map vendor payment accounts window.

Also, there's another possible reason why your vendor shows up even though they aren't eligible for the threshold.

Here's how to check it:

  1. From the Vendors menu, choose Vendor Center.
  2. On the Vendor Center window, double-click the vendor name.
  3. On the left pane, select the Tax Settings tab.
  4. Make sure the Vendor eligible for 1099 box is blank.
  5. Click OK

Regarding the other two questions, I suggest sending a feedback request to our Product developer team. Our product development team will review it and may consider adding this functionality in future updates.

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Choose the Send Feedback Online option
  3. Select Product Suggestion from the list. A pop-up window will appear.
  4. Enter your feedback suggestion into the provided field.
  5. Click the Send Feedback button to submit your suggestion.

Refer to this article to learn how to modify your chart of account for your 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC filling in QBO.

Please know that your concerns are heard, and we genuinely appreciate your commitment to ensuring that QuickBooks meets the necessary reporting requirements. Your insights are invaluable as we work towards improving the software to better serve our users. If you have any further comments or need assistance, I’m here to help.

1099 Detail Report threshold issue

Hello RhoiceW, I appreciate your prompt response, thanks.

Perhaps something was misunderstood, as you're referring to "threshold not set to zero that's why vendors with $0.00 are appearing on the report"

That is not the issue I'm describing, I'm referring to Vendors still being listed who do not meet the $600 threshold, ie their Total is less than $600 (but greater than $0).   Please review what I wrote:

"When producing a 1099-NEC Detail Report, it still includes Vendors who do not meet the $600 threshold, and I don't see any way provided by QuickBooks to exclude these Vendors. Filtering for Amounts less than $600 is not appropriate, as that removes transactions that should not be excluded. We need to be able to filter for "Totals" less than $600.

(I had already previously checked the threshold setting that you describe, and it is at 600 as required.)

Perhaps you can take another look at this issue, how to filter for Totals less than $600, and see what can be done about it please.

Many thanks, Peter

1099 Detail Report threshold issue

Excluding the vendors who do not meet the $600 threshold in the report is unavailable, Piper288. I can help you request this functionality from our developers while I provide some workaround you may consider.

The 1099 Detail report displays every payment made to vendors, with extra filters for those classified as 1099 vendors and accounts. That's why the list includes those not meeting the $600 threshold.

Additionally, I appreciate your effort in checking the tax settings to review your vendors' eligibility. Since we cannot modify the report to show only those who meet the $600 requirement, I recommend submitting a proposal for the additional feature to filter Amounts. This way, our developers may consider implementing it in the future.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Help icon at the top menu.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online and then click Product Suggestion.
  3. Enter your request, then tap Send Feedback.

Monitor your suggestions through this website and stay informed about recent developments by visiting our blog.

In the meantime, you can export the report to Excel to organize the data by vendor and filter out those who do not meet the threshold. Alternatively, explore third-party software that provides more advanced reporting capabilities.

Moreover, refer to this article for more ways to personalize reports according to your needs: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Furthermore, save this reference to memorize the current customization for future use: Create, access, and modify memorized reports.

We are genuinely interested in your input as it may help enhance the program moving forward. If you need a hand in tailoring reports, comment below, and I'll assist you promptly.

1099 Detail Report threshold issue

Basically it boils down to the fact that Intuit/Quickbooks has never had a smoothly functioning way to process 1099's .... in my opinion.   I have always processed them "on a wing and a prayer."   The thresholds do not work properly,  I have been advised to remove vendors one year then try to remember to add them back the next, and most hilariously advised that my payroll function needed to be updated for 1099's to process correctly.

The most offensive issue to me is that I'm paying $2000 a year for Quickbooks and now I'm also having to pay a third party to process my 1099's electronically!!  ..... and it is an absolutely nightmare process.  It seems for the amount of money I'm spending with Quickbooks they could figure out how to process these 1099's directly!

No need for any "Quickbooks Team Member" to reply to this .... fortunately I'm near enough to retirement that I won't have to deal with this much longer!
