Newer QuickBooks versions "Past Due" Notice not showing on Invoices

It looks like Intuit has been avoiding the subject, talking only about seeing the past due reference in statements, etc. but not mentioning it for an invoice.

I'm using QuickBooks 2015 but I'm pretty sure I had the same problem in myprevious version. It used to work but probably a few versions ago. Why would they remove it...?

Newer QuickBooks versions "Past Due" Notice not showing on Invoices

"Are you really not employed with Intuit?"

We are your Peer users. This is a text-based Public Internet Forum. If you owned an older Ford Mustang, you would seek out a support forum for that car. Same concept.

"Wasn't the title of the question pretty clear? Yes, I used to be able to get the "Past Due" stamp on an invoice."

Are you asking about a Template you used?

"Haven't been able in a while."

HOW did you used to get this?

We would need to know if this is Function, a Menu option, a Template or document?

From the Overdue screen in Income Tracker? From an Email function? From an Aging Report? There is an outgoing OverDue Text from the Email function.

Or, perhaps you used to use the Letters function, from the Company menu or the top of the Invoice, where you can Open an invoice and create an Invoice Letter that is for Past Due notification.

Please, give us Details we can follow along with.

"If you know how to do it, please tell me. It's a pretty simple question and I have looked it up thoroughly on your forums."

These are not My Forums.

"The answer by the QuickBooks team was only addressing the statement or reporting if you prefer. It is not an unusual practice to send an invoice with the "Past Due" stamp."

Honestly, I have used QB since 1997 and teaching it since 2007. "Know how to do it" relies on knowing What you are describing.

Perhaps you have an Invoice Template, when you printed or Preview it, that had this as a large block, similar to how the Paid Status Stamp appears? Open List menu > Templates. Be sure to enable "Include Inactive" if you have made any Inactive.

If this is where you see that invoice template, but you Made it inactive, then while viewing an invoice on your screen, the Templates dropdown will not show anything made Inactive, because that is Why you make things on lists Inactive = stop showing to me, as I don't intend to select it.

Make every template Active that you might want to select from, when working with an invoice open on your screen.

Perhaps it was a Late Fee Invoice Template? You open the function for asses late fees, and the template here is yours to control (an invoice template) and the Charges are listed on the invoice, with the notation for which invoice it is assessed on behalf of.

Or, for instance, I have a version of the invoice template where I customized it and selected to show the "Customer Total Balance" for the footer, to indicate to the customer: this is the total New charges, but you have a larger Total Outstanding, and here I am showing it to you, on this invoice. I do that to eliminate the need to also print and send a statement for these past due customers. I named this template "OverDue Balance."

If it was not a template, then please let us know. If it was a template in your file, it should still be in your file, if you are using the same file as in the past.

Newer QuickBooks versions "Past Due" Notice not showing on Invoices

Hi, thank you, I understand you are trying to answer my question, but want to know more. No, it wasn't a template. I am reconsidering my question altogether, but surprised how I could have dreamed it. I've used QuickBooks since 1997. In my memory an invoice that was left unpaid past the due date would automatically show "Past Due" in red across the top. I work usually with a few loyal companies, so I haven't needed it in a long time, but this one new client is over 6 months late on finishing paying one invoice. Sending a statement with so little too show wouldn't have the same effect I feel as sending an invoice with the Past Due notice. I'll try to create an invoice template to that effect, it's a good idea.

If you go to the invoice and select customize layout/formatting/basic customization there is a place to check for the "stamps" to show up.  However, no stamp appears for the past due, etc., invoices.  Is there a trick to getting those to show up?

As noted in this discussion, this is not a "function" in the program that I have ever seen. It can be a Created condition by anyone who wants to use their own Template and put a Text Box on that version and use it accordingly. There is no "enable/disable" for this in QB Desktop, that I have seen. There is only what you see available; some day, if this becomes available, you will see it.

The new version supposedly has this function, couldn't it be included in an upgrades for Premiere 2016  This has been needed for a long long time,  I agree with the former,  I have been working with QB since the 80's and I do remember the 'RED PAST DUE "  on my late invoices

"Sending a statement with so little too show wouldn't have the same effect I feel as sending an invoice with the Past Due notice."

You can Retitle the Invoice template (or your Statement) as "Past Due ACCOUNT." Change the existing invoice to use this template.

I use Statements because I like the Aging at the bottom. I change the Balance Due, though. It is moved to the top right, above the body. It is Larger Font. The Label is changed: Amount Now Past Due. "Balance" is not good enough to get their attention, and neither is a 9 point font.

In class, when we do the Customize Invoice lesson, I make the Balance Due Bright Purple and at least 16 point font :)

"It looks like Intuit has been avoiding the subject, talking only about seeing the past due reference in statements, etc. but not mentioning it for an invoice."

If you want help, you will have to be more specific, and not start off accusatory.

Are you asking about Aging? Aging is not part of the Invoice; it is part of your Reporting. The Invoice, per your Options to customize it, will show due date.

Or, are you expecting some large text stamp for Past Due?

More Details would be helpful.

"I'm using QuickBooks 2015 but I'm pretty sure I had the same problem in myprevious version."

We don't know what "problem" this is.

"It used to work but probably a few versions ago. Why would they remove it...?"

I don't know that they did. I have been using QB since 1997 and everything I have been using still is here.

We need more details, if you really want help. Otherwise, please note this is not Live Chat with Intuit. We are peer users on this Public Internet forum, and are glad to Help you with something.

OK, you are right, this was accusatory. Are you really not employed with Intuit? I was surprised by your response! Wasn't the title of the question pretty clear? Yes, I used to be able to get the "Past Due" stamp on an invoice.  Haven't been able in a while. If you know how to do it, please tell me. It's a pretty simple question and I have looked it up thoroughly on your forums. The answer by the QuickBooks team was only addressing the statement or reporting if you prefer. It is not an unusual practice to send an invoice with the "Past Due" stamp.
