Audit Log Columns Missing

My audit log report is missing columns. It only shows the Date Changed, User, Event, History columns. It used to also show the Name, Date, and Amount columns. And when I click on Setting, it doesn't give me the option to add these columns back.

How do I add these columns back?

Audit Log Columns Missing

Hello kweibstgg!

I understand that you need these columns since the audit log track the activities on the account. I'm here to help you with it.

There are small changes to the audit log but still showing the same result. The Date Changed column is still the same as the old interface. Also, it still has the User, Event, and History columns.

With the new interface, you can now find the amount on the Event column. If you want to view the date when the transaction was created, you can click on the View button on the History column. From there, you'll see all changes made on that transaction and when it was changed.Capture.PNG

Our developers are continuously updating and improving the features in QuickBooks Online. While we have no option to switch back to the old audit log, I suggest you send feedback about this to them. Simply go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.

I added some links you can check. These will show you the list of available reports in QuickBooks Online and how to customize them to get accurate info:

I'm only a post away if you have other concerns in running reports and the audit log. Take care!

Audit Log Columns Missing

Eliminating the Transaction Date column makes is a lot harder to search for specific transactions.

For example, I need to know what transactions dated in October were modified from November 12 to November 14. The problem is that there are a ton of transactions that were entered in both October and November during this time. Now that the Transaction Date column is now longer there, I would have to click View on every single transaction modified from November 12 to November 14 to know whether it had a Transaction Date of October or November.

To get around this, I tried pulling an Income Statement Detail report for October, customizing the report to add the Date Modified column, and then sorting all of the transactions by Date Modified. However, it first groups all of the transactions by P&L account and then sorts them by Transaction Date. So now I have to check every single Income Statement account group to see which transactions were modified from November 12 to November 14. I went to Customize Report again to find a way to eliminate the P&L account Subtotals (like you can do in QB Desktop), but it doesn't look like there is any way to do this.

Is there any way I can pull a report showing all transactions dated in October that were modified from November 12 to November 14 that are all grouped together and not separated by Subtotals?

I really don't get why columns like Transaction Date were eliminated from the Audit Log report with no way to add them back by customizing the report (like you can do in QB Desktop). Eliminating fields like this makes any report inherently less useful.

Audit Log Columns Missing

Thanks for getting back to us, @kweibstgg.

I appreciate you sharing the complete details of your concern. Allow me to chime in and share some additional information about the report you'd like to pull up in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Based information you've shared above, you can run the Transaction List by Date report. All you need to do is to set the Report period to your preferred date. Then, add the Last Modified column to show the dates of the modified transactions.

Here's how to do it:

  1. In QBO, go to the Reports menu at the left pane.
  2. In the search field, type Transaction List by Date and select it in the drop-down to open.
  3. Click the Customize option at the upper right.
  4. In the Report period section, set your preferred date.
  5. Tick the Change columns in the Rows/Columns section.
  6. Place a checkmark on the Last Modified box.
  7. Hit Run report to refresh.

I can see how having the date column in the Audit Log would be helpful for you, and I'll take note of this. For now, I suggest sending feedback to our product developers to let them know about this. You may follow the steps shared by my colleague above or refer to this article: How do I submit feedback?
