Based On Location sales tax

Is it possible to completely turn off sales tax based on location?

Is it possible to turn off messaging that keeps wanting me to pay with Mastercard. I do not understand why QBO forces you to use features you do not want.

Thanks for coming into the Community,  @CAR8929

I'm here to provide answers to your questions about turning off the sales tax and the QuickBooks Payment ad.

When using the Automated Sales Tax feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO), the calculation of the sales tax amount is based on the state where you have nexus and are registered to collect sales tax, the physical address of your business and on the sales forms, the product mapping you've associated with the item you're selling, and the exemption status of your customer.

I can see the importance of having a feature that'll let you deactivate this based on location sales tax. I'll be sure to take note of it. I'd also recommend you visit our Blog to learn about what new updates and features we have.

You can consider deactivating the State tax from the Sales Tax Center if you don't want this to be calculated based on location.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes tab and select Sales Tax menu.
  2. Proceed to the Sales tax settings.
  3. Click the Edit drop-down of the tax agency and choose Make inactive.

On the other hand, the only way to get rid of the advertisements is by manually closing them with the X sign or the No thanks option. Since it isn't beneficial to your navigation experience, you can send this request directly to our developers via feedback. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under PROFILE, select Feedback.
  3. Enter a few describing the option to turn off or remove in-app advertisements.
  4. Select Next.
  5. Click Skip and send message.

I'm adding this reference so you're able to track the status of your request as well as the latest updates from our developer team: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.

It'll always be my pleasure to help if you've got other questions. Use the Reply button and leave your comment below so that I can assist you further. Take care always!

Based On Location sales tax

This not the answer I was looking for. I want the system to calculate sales tax. I just don't want it to automatically calculate and break it down into three different tax categories like state and county. In IL we have one take rate and one place to pay. All I want the system to do is calculate a 10% sales tax on taxable items. When I open an invoice i have to wait anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds for that stupid based on location to think.

PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION WITH A YES OR NO. CAN THIS FEATURE BE TURNED OFF WITHOUT DELETING MY TAX AGENCY?

We understand that this feature is important to your business, CAR8929. We are committed to providing the best possible experience for our users and appreciate your continued support as we work towards achieving that goal.

By default, QuickBooks automatically does the sales tax calculations on your sales transactions based on location for easy and accurate filings. At the moment, there isn't an integrated way to turn off the location feature while calculating sales tax for invoices. I recommend manually creating a custom rate and use it to calculate the sales tax.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu and select Sales tax settings.
  2. From the Custom Rates section, click Add Rate.
  3. Select Single or Combined and enter the Name of the custom rate.
  4. Choose the Agency you file payments to and enter the Rate.
  5. Once done, click  Save.

You can check this article for more information: Use custom rates to manually calculate taxes on invoices or receipts in QuickBooks Online.

"based on location" calculation just started happening for us - around march/april 2024.  Maybe an "update" with qb's??   We buy/sell items in one area - the sales tax rate should always be the same...      there is no rhyme or reason for this.

i think we all just want to know why this is an issue - and when will it be resolved?

Texas -

local sales tax and state sales tax combined is 8.25.

Texas 6.25

Local 2.00

We buy and sell equipment/services/materials for projects within the "state and local sales tax region".  All of our invoices should calculate the total sales tax - 8.25.

I first noticed the problem when I worked on sales tax for March - my numbers did not match the report in quickbooks (sales tax liability report).  Which, needless to say, caused me another headache since the financial reports in qb's online are - well - basically useless -  it took me several hours to figure out why there was a discrepancy.

I have to use spreadsheets (that I created) to do reconciliations.

I had 6 customers invoices that weren't charged the total sales tax -

4 of those customers were "pre-existing" (for lack of a better term) and the previous invoices for them had the correct sales tax.

This problem started in March -

So - it isn't an issue with "location" - it is a glitch with qb's online.

Having said all of that.

Why does qb's show a payment posted to an invoice the day the "transaction" happens - rather than the day the payment is actually deposited into the bank?

Example:

A customer goes online on 3/28/2024 to make a payment.  QB's applies that payment to the invoice that same day but the money doesn't get deposited until April.

WHY is that?

Hello there, KW72.

The initial deposits may take a little longer if you are using QuickBooks Online Payments as we require some time to configure your account. After the setup is complete, your payments will be credited within two business days. However, keep in mind that some banks may take more time to process the transaction.

For more details, please see this article: Payments Deposits in QuickBooks Online.

If you have opted to manually record payments, you may have selected Undeposited Funds as the account for deposit.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the + New and then select Bank Deposit.
  2. Select the bank account you wish to deposit the payments.
  3. In the Received from the column, select the invoice/payment.
  4. Once done, click on Save and close.

To ensure that your payments are accurately recorded in QuickBooks, I have also provided you with these articles:

I would be happy to assist you with any further inquiries you may have regarding your QuickBooks-related concern. Please feel free to provide additional details in the comment section.

it isn't an issue of "holds"

A customer opens our invoice - pays the invoice - and qb's processes the payment as "received" right away - but it doesn't get deposited right away -  but qb's "applies" the payment RIGHT THEN.

customer goes online - pays the invoice - qb's applies the payment - that same day

however - the payment is not deposited immediately -

i'm asking why quickbooks shows a payment on an invoice - before the payment is deposited into the bank.

we are using quickbooks payments.

I understand your frustration about the delayed posting of payment to your bank account in QuickBooks Online, KW72. I like to hop in and share how to set your bank account to instant deposits.

If you are new to QuickBooks Payments, it may take a little longer for your ACH payments to be processed during the first month. During the initial 1 to 4 weeks, you can expect to receive your payments within 5 days as we set up everything. Once the setup is complete, we will notify you via email, informing you that your payments will then be processed at the regular speed.

If you need to get money in real time, I suggest updating your bank account to an Instant deposit setup. Let's do it to the Gear icon.

Here's how:

  1. Choose the Gear icon and click Account and Settings.
  2. Select the Payments tab and go to the Deposit Accounts section.
  3. Pick Change to edit your instant deposit info.
  4. Note: If you switch from your debit card to your QuickBooks Checking debit card, select the 0% fee option.
  5. After that, click Save and then Done.

Furthermore, you can refer to this page for more insights: Change the deposit bank account for QuickBooks Payments.

Nonetheless, If the amount has not arrived on the given time, you can contact our phone representative in QuickBooks Payments to check the status of the payment.

I'm also adding these resources for your guide while managing your invoice payments:

However, if payments are experiencing delays, it's possible that they are not being held. For individuals using QuickBooks Payments for the first time, initial payments may take longer to process as we establish the necessary setup. Keep me posted if you still have invoice payment concerns. We are here to support your growing business. Have a great day ahead.
