Can I change the word Estimates to the word Quote on my forms that are sending out to customers? I tried changing it in my custom forms part but it isn't applying

I was finally able to figure this out by following the directions at Re: Can you change Estimate to show Quote in quick... (intuit.com)

First, I had to go into an "Estimate" and select "Old Layout" in the top right corner.

Then I followed the directions in the link above.

(I changed the template name to Quote so I could easily identify it in the "Customize" step below)

Once that was complete, I saw that "Estimate" was no longer an option in the Sales drop down menu.

To find the updated Quote form I selected "All Sales" in the Sales drop down menu

Then I found "Estimate" in the New Transactions drop down menu

At the bottom of that form, I selected the "Customize" link and chose the Quote template from the list

Then I selected "Print or Preview" and was able to see the new template was applied

I was also able to see the Quote template when I selected Save and Send.

Hope this helps others!

There is an online help subject:

Create and send quotes in QuickBooks Online (intuit.com)

It states you can create a new quote in QBO but this does not exist in my application. Am I missing something or did you remove the quote feature?

Can I change the word Estimates to the word Quote on my forms that are sending out to customers? I tried changing it in my custom forms part but it isn't applying

I am confused - I found this link in QBO help:

Create and send quotes in QuickBooks Online (intuit.com)

In the instructions below it states to select + new and then select Quote. However, when I select + new there is no quote as an option? This instruction set is only 1 month old. What am I missing - I only see "estimate" when I select + new???

Step 1: Create a quote

  1. Select + New.
  2. Select Quote.
  3. Select a customer from the Customer dropdown.
  4. If the work has already started, select a status from the Pending ▼ dropdown. This is optional.
  5. Set the Quote date and the Expiration date.
  6. Enter the products and services you plan to sell.
  7. Enter any other info you need.
  8. When you're ready, select Save and close

I'll clarify your concern with the Quotes or Estimates in QuickBooks Online, Charles.

Thanks for your interest in having the Quote or Estimate feature in QuickBooks Online. The article you've provided is for the Australian version of QBO. That's why you see a Quote from the steps given.

Since you're currently using the QBO US version, you'll see the Estimate feature. Thus, these two functions the same way.

Otherwise, you might consider personalizing your estimate and changing the form name. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon ⚙ and then select Custom form styles.
  2. Click the New style dropdown and choose Estimate.

  3. From the Content section, tick the header section.
  4. Go to From names and modify it to Quote
  5. Tap Done to save.

Once done, you can select the dropdown ▼ in the Action column and click Make default

When printing the form, you'll now be able to see the changes.

Thank you very much for this. I've been asking about this for over two years now and you're the first to respond with anything other than "...because we don't do that". I very much appreciate you sorting this out for me. This saves a bunch of explaining every time someone asks for a quote.

Unfortunately, this does not do it with the Modern template - this works only for the Old Layout.

I will use the old layout for now (sadly).

Thank you for your time in trying to support - I do appreciate it.

Nor does it help when you need to create both regularly. Desktop version had templates which included both estimates and quotes as well as others which could be changed easily on the fly.
A feature removed in the online version.
I have customers who will not accept estimates only quotes.  I usually use estimates for everyone else and switched between the two regularly.  Not happy

Update requested August 2023.

Has Quickbooks Online addressed the issue of a Quotation being available to our clients?

Can I change the word Estimates to the word Quote on my forms that are sending out to customers? I tried changing it in my custom forms part but it isn't applying

Yes, while we can't create a quote directly in the system, we can make it available, @dzande.

Currently, the only way to create a quote directly from QuickBooks Online when you select the + New button in the US version is to create and rename the form from "estimate to "quote." You'll want to check my peer's recommendation (@Carneil_C) and follow the steps she instructed above.

Then if you want to go back and create an estimate later, you can switch to the usual estimate form. From the Estimate window, click Customize and then choose the original estimate form.

If you need more guidance personalizing your sales forms, feel free to check this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

You can change to a quote but then when you send to the customer is states estimate#quote in the email!

Its ridiculous, any coder can sort this out. Makes no sense why there is not just an option for quote and option for estimate!

Come on, surely you can get this fixed, would save me so much time in my business!

Does quickbooks realise these a different things?

Can I change the word Estimates to the word Quote on my forms that are sending out to customers? I tried changing it in my custom forms part but it isn't applying

THREE YEARS, QUICKBOOKS

THREE YEARS

Still QuickBooks can't produce quotes. A quote and an estimate are two entirely different things. A quote is a fixed, guaranteed price. An estimate is exactly that, an estimate that is subject to change.

NONE of my customers accept estimates. They can't generate a purchase order without a guaranteed price. So, EVERYTHING must say "Quote" and not "Estimate". Currently I've followed the instructions and changed the PDF so that it says "Quote", but the auto-generated email still has "Estimate" in the subject line and in the body of the email, and there's no way to change that.

An accounting package that can't create quotes.... HELLO? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!?!?!?!

This should be made the accepted solution on the first page. The other suggested approaches are flawed:

This one solved my issues and I was able to rename Estimate to Quote:

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/reports-and-accounting/re-why-does-quickbooks-not-...

I don't understand why Intuit came up with Estimate. Quote is the standard accepted word. Estimate implies that the final amount is not exact and subject to change. Whereas Quote is often exact amount.

We understand the importance of adding the appropriate label, such as a Quote, when making a transaction, blueplanet2024. Let me share some information regarding this one.

Since this feature is currently not available in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, we're working hard to address this concern. We appreciate your patience as we work towards a release date for this feature.

In the meantime, I'd recommend sending feedback so our Engineering Team can consider adding this feature in the next update. To do so, please click on the Gear icon and select Feedback located under Profile. Once there, enter your product comments and suggestions. Finally, click on Next to submit your feedback.

Furthermore, you can follow this article to learn how to convert transactions after a customer accepts your estimate in QBO: Convert an estimate into an invoice in QuickBooks Online.
