Can I remove the line for sales tax in invoices? I sell services that aren't subject to sales taxes.

I sell tutoring services. In my state, tutoring services aren't subject to sales tax. Quickbooks seems to think they are. How can I get Quickbooks to stop adding tax to the totals I charge my clients? And how do I remove the "tax" line from invoices that I send to customers?

Good day, onlinetutor.

How you set up your service item in QuickBooks Online (QBO) affects how you want the sales tax to be calculated. Just make sure your products and services aren't taxable. To check this, you can open each item and categorize it as nontaxable if you aren't collecting sales taxes from customers.

Let me show you how:

  1. Select Sales, then Products and Services.
  2. Locate the item, then click Edit.
  3. Select Nontaxable from the Sales tax category section.
  4. Click Save and close.

Additionally, please browse these articles about customizing reports and the common question in sales tax.

You can check out this article on how you can determine if your sale is exempt from tax: Conducting non-taxable sales.

For the invoices that were already sent with a tax line, you can ask y our customers to disregard it and just edit your invoice and resend it to them.

  1. Go to the Sales tab.
  2. Choose Invoices.
  3. From there, find the invoice you want to edit.
  4. Make the necessary changes.
  5. Click Save and close or Save and send.

Let me know in the comments section how the call goes. I'm always here, willing to help more. Be safe.

@Charies_M , nice try, but you didn't answer the question... how do we remove the "tax" line .. that's the main question. as you can see, that is the subject of the question and he even put quotation marks on the word "tax", which is the line in the totals area.

Currently, to remove the tax line on invoice isn't available in QuickBooks Online. I recommend sending feedback to our product developers. They'll review this idea and might consider updating it in the future.

You can follow these steps to send feedback:

  1. Go to the Gear located at the top.
  2. Under Profile, click Feedback.

I added this article for more details on how to personalize your sales forms: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if I can be of additional assistance or should you have any follow up questions. I’ll be here to help. Have a good one.

@TirzahC, why are you suggesting something that is no longer offered in quickbooks? are you joking?

"Note: As of 06/29/2021, new QuickBooks Online accounts will no longer have access to the Import Styles feature inside of QuickBooks Labs. Existing accounts can still use DOCX templates uploaded before this date."

this proves that most of you there are not paying attention to details...
