Just want to add my name to the long, long list of people who think that the behavior where changing the service/product wipes the description, rate and quantity is just awful. It is appalling that you're taking so long to implement a fix for this :-(

This is obviously not true. When you change the product/service, the description, rate and quantity are wiped.

I understand that changing the service/product without deleting the information on description, rate, and quantity saves you time.

If the replaced item contains different information, the system will automatically update the information, depending on how the product/service is set up. 

The idea is fantastic for future product enhancement, and I encourage you to send your product suggestions through QuickBooks. Our product development team reviews all customer suggestions and may include them in the next update.

Here's how:

1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
2. Go to the Gear icon.
3. Select Feedback.
4. Enter your product suggestion.
5. Once done, hit Next to submit.

Meanwhile, you may take a screenshot of the information and manually re-enter it when changing the line item on an invoice.

Is this the reason why "Reclassifying multiple Transactions" doesn't work when trying to mass update products/services on a sales receipt?  Because when you change the product/service, it wipes out the rest of the info on that line?  

"Reclassifying transactions" never works for me when I'm trying to mass update the product/service within a sales receipt.  I have at least a couple hundred to update... and I'd rather not do it one by one, AND have to make sure the amount is re-entered correctly.  What a pain.  And it risks more error.

You can utilize the Reclassify Transactions tool to change multiple transactions or move them to a different account. However, there are a few you can't move since they're tied to specific accounts and features. This includes the following: 

• You can change the class for invoices, sales receipts, checks, or bills with items (products or services) on them. However, you can’t change the accounts.
• You can’t change the account or class for inventory adjustments since they’re connected to your inventory shrinkage and asset accounts.

I came here looking for an answer to the same problem. The original post was from 2019. It's now 2023. Intuit regularly raises their rates for their customers, but where is the development? Do you care about your customers' needs at all or is it time for me to find help with a competitor?

This bug is SO annoying. As a programmer, I'd think this is relatively easy to fix.

The ability to change the service or product on your invoice line without deleting the information in the description, rate, and quantity is a great functionality that'll help save more time. As of now, this feature is unavailable in QuickBooks Online.. Sending feedback is a great way to help us improve the program's features.

Here's how:

1. Go to the Gear menu and then select Feedback.
2. Type in your feature request in the description box.
3. Once done, click on Next.

You also can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

I don't think you guys really understand the frustration -- and possibly even the problem.  This is NOT a feature. It is a bug.  I've been a customer for over 2 decades -- first with the desktop version and switched to the online version when it was released.  Why don't you guys take this seriously, rather than tell us how to complain again about it, or how to copy and paste contents of the description to get this done. It is seriously annoying!

It's so annoying, that I tell clients NOT to use Quickbooks online, and I also am considering using a different platform once I can switch. It's THAT annoying.

Do you understand that your response merely indicates that your company is deaf to our voice.  Why in the world would we spend our time jumping through your hoops. you could simply print out this 3 page list of people tellign you your software is annoying in a very specific way and take it to whom ever might need to see this.

Hopefully at least one employee at QBO sees this thread, decides they care, and pushes for a fix to this bug. 

Also, why does changing an account category to a paid invoice have to resubmit the payment on the invoice and inform the customer of an update to the invoice? So much drama just for changing the internal account which a customer doesn't see anyway. 

I can see how convenient to have a way to change items in your invoices while keeping their previous details, SB999.

Other information aside from the setup of your item like the description, quantity, or rate, will also update when you change it. Follow the steps below on how to update the invoice.

Here's how:

1. Go to the Sales menu and select Invoices.
2. Select to open the invoice.
3. Click the Edit invoice button.
4. Update the necessary information.
5. Click on Save once you're done.

I am trying to assign a product/service to an invoice created without it. It already has the description and the amount/QTY but the product/service has to be assigned. 

When I go to add in the product/service account it will delete out the description and qty/amount I already had in the line. 

Is there any way to make it so that when assigning the correct product/service i will not loose my other items on the line?

We can change the product/service item of the invoice without deleting other information. However, if the setup of your item has a different description, quantity, or rate, it will also update when you change it. Alternatively, we can enter a new Item on a new line. Then, copy and paste the description. Once done, re-enter Qty and price, and delete the old line. 

We see consumer feedback as an opportunity to improve the numerous features of our products. I'd recommend giving our engineers direct feedback. They may look into this suggestion and incorporate it into future updates. Let me demonstrate:

1. Go to the Gear icon.
2. Hit Feedback.
3. Type in your recommendation in the Share your feedback field.
4. Click Next.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Thank you for the email to say the thread has been updated. Sadly, the software is unchanged and the post in the thread appears to be someone offshore working from a script who has never used Quickbooks.

For the tenth time, here is the problem: Select New..Invoice.. enter a quantity and price.. then select the product. The quantity and price that you just typed in, that information will be destroyed

How frustrating is it that 4 years on this problem is still not fixed. It seems this relatively simple coding to fix is beyond Quickbooks engineers. It doesn't leave a whole lot of confidence. 

What is worse is the continue gaslighting from Quickbooks representatives. This is a bug not a feature. Its a bug from the migration from desktop to online. 

No we do not want to take a screen capture and re-enter the data. Seriously, this is a software company recommending double manual data entry for an everyday task. 

We keep asking through this channel and through Feedback function within Quickbooks and get either nothing or gaslighting.

I encourage the community to upvote each others comments on this issue and continue to report in the somewhat slim chance that it finally makes it onto the radar of the person responsible for bug tracking at Quickbooks. 

For Quickbooks: an alternative to gaslighting is to acknowledge this is a bug and report back on the timeline to fix it. It's what all our other software vendors do.

JUST LIKE THE OTHER  COMPLAINTS OPEN FOR FOUR YEARS... FOR EXAMPLE- WE STILL CAN'T PRINT A BILL.  

IT IS BASIC ITEMS LIKE THIS THAT MAKE OUR DAYS LONGER AND HARDER. 

Four thousand plus a year for an app that continues  to not listen to their customers.

If people Invoice in QB, that is probably a daily event for them which makes this need important!
