Classic view vs. Modern view onreports

Now the changes to the invoicing screen has exacerbated the problem.  As an accounting firm in the middle of tax season I just don't have the available time to help people with all the problems they are having navigating this garbage.  And that's what it is, garbage.  I spend more time correcting the mistakes business users have made trying to navigate the unfamiliar and honesty, nonsensical changes that have been made.  I can assure you NO ONE ASKED FOR ANY OF THIS!

I agree with you 100%.  I can't keep up and my vendor screens are basically broken.  My workflow as become as familiar as a windy road in the mountains after dark.  I simply can't navigate all of this crap.

Right on! I have loved QB since they were sending out free disks to try out the software for 90 days (I believe). It has become almost unusable over the last year. Everything is messed up. Yet, they are calling them fixes. Ugh.

- Recurring transactions now close out after using 2 transactions

- They have messed with the screen/field sizing (it no longer auto-sizes to fit the browser), I have to readjust almost every time I enter a bill

- Modern View reports - enough said

- Save button at bottom of some screens is now actually on a "separate" page so it takes 2 clicks to activate it (one to click in the "page" and one to then activate)

- So many, many, many more user-unfriendly changes and no one at Intuit gives a rat's bottom. As long as the Board is still raking in $, they don't care.

I no longer have anything good to say about QBO; I would recommend everyone avoid it like the plague if you're not already stuck with it. I have contacted a business reporter to tell them to come look at the Community section for QB and see how many people are screaming about the "unfunctionality" of QBO. Think I will contact a few more.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why our thoughts are not being considered.  I could understand if I was new to the industry and new to the platform.  But I started using QuickBooks on a regular basis back in 2003.  QBDT has always been great but when they introduced QBO it was subpar at best.
Years later it improved but we are now back to the point that if I don't find something else soon I'll be retiring.  I can tell you that I'm not the only person that feels this way.

Particularly frustrating is the replies received from Intuit.  Ask a question as to why a reversal to classic view isn't allowed or how can you change the report default to the earlier version and all you get is a detailed and comprehensive lesson on how to print reports.  REALLY?

My biggest objection is my client users are frustrated and are quickly lost leading to unnecessary mistakes that I have to correct and try to teach them how to avoid them in the future.  Now that tax season is here, that is a serious, irritating and unwanted drain on resources.

They say people are praising the changes and I'd love to see the data on who those people actually are other than intuit personnel.  They are certainly not accountants that have been in the business for more than an hour.  If I added a premium surcharge to correct QBO mistakes while processing tax returns I'm sure those phantom praises would vanish overnight.

Unfortunately, despite this forum and the Idea Exchange (and probably Feedback), they have decided to push on with Modern View reports.

Keep the classic view reports (intuit.com)

We started using the RightTool app and it has helped with a ton of things including the classic view on reports.
Check it out.  They have a very robust FREE version and for more advanced tools they have an inexpensive paid for account.
I hope this helps.

The idea that we now need a third party app to sidestep the idiocy intuit insists we just accept as "enhanced functions" only serves to prove how tone-deaf their developers have become.  WTF?  Accountant users are responsible for a majority of the subscriptions Intuit enjoys. We are being ignored and it doesn't sit well.  Now the sales push is on for ledger as, what I suspect is, a hidden agenda to move small sole props to online and off desktop so we can watch the same 5 year march from $10 a month to $50 just like we saw plus go from $30 to $90.  Not buying it.  I'll put them on Zoho if it becomes a forced issue.

I agree with you 100%.  Intuit used to be great and always tried to stay on top of the best thought process for accounting.  In the last 5 -7 years it has slowly gone downhill and we've had to find work arounds.  AND the last year and a half has been atrocious.
While I do like the work arounds I've found, I agree that they should not be necessary and QuickBooks/Intuit should be listening to the people that have supported their business for the last 30 years.

We are also looking for an alternative (one stop shop) software but have not quite found it yet.

Classic view vs. Modern view onreports

WARNING TO ALL USERS!! The Modern View and Classic View Report often to not match! The classic view seems to be correct. There is something wrong with the modern view. Modern view either omits or adds random items to the reports. I ran a report on a chart of account item for the current year, "This Year" and the Modern View added an item dated last year (11.16.2023) but dated it on the report as 2.2.2024 and when I clicked on the item in the report it showed it was in fact dated 11.16.2023. How and why did it redate this on the modern view report. When I switched to classic view the totals were correct. I wrote to QB via Feedback last July about this issue and have been using classic view since, but if QB is going to discontinue classic view we are all going to have problems with report accuracy. I sent them a message via Feedback again tonight but I urge all to check both versions of your reports now and start writing QB if you are finding the same issues.

I have found the same issues.  And about 1/2 the time I try to drill down into a particular balance, everything goes haywire and the screen flickers back and forth between the summary and the detail but nothing is clickable and I can't escape out of it. I usually have to kill the session or window, which is f*cking INFURIATING!

Ensuring seamless access to the desired report is my utmost priority, jmartini. I know how it feels to view a report where it repeatedly turns off and on or changes between different views. Let's troubleshoot and take the necessary steps to guarantee seamless report viewing.

Let's open your account using an incognito window and run the report. Occasionally, the accumulated cache and cookies in the system can become outdated or corrupted, leading to unexpected behaviors. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl+ Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

Sample.PNG

Once you can drill down into your balance or your screen is not flickering anymore, return to your default browser and clear your cache to refresh the system. You can also switch to other installed supported browsers, which is a good alternative.

On the other hand, I'd like to ask for additional details of your concerns. Could you please specify what report you generated? If possible, can you provide a screenshot of it? With that additional context, I'll be able to explore potential solutions to address this promptly.

For additional reference, you can customize your reports to view specific data. You can also memorize them for future use.

I'm always here to lend a hand and ensure you receive the help you need. If you have additional queries with your reports, click the reply below.

Classic view vs. Modern view onreports

QuickBooks doesn’t let you set Classic view as the permanent default for all reports. When you click into transaction details, it automatically switches to the Modern view, and there’s currently no global setting to stop that — which is why your dates and filters keep resetting.

  • Use “Open in new tab” when drilling down on transactions

  • Lock your dates by turning on “Report period: This fiscal year”

  • Memorize the report in Classic view and reuse it for each client

  • Export to Excel/PDF for year-end reviews to avoid resets

It’s a real workflow issue, and many professionals are frustrated by this change — you’re definitely not alone.

Well, QBO is making you convert to "Modern" view...

Beginning May 22, 2026, Modern View will become the standard reporting experience in QuickBooks as part of a phased retirement of the Classic View.

Modern view should have at least everything that classic view has in a standard report or at least the option of changing the standard report.  The option to change standard reports are only available in the cadillac subscription "QuickBooks Advanced" which will cost 150% more for 12 months and after that 200% more.  We do not need 25 users or the other perks in the adavance subscription.  We only need to change standard reports. I can understand change the cost for more users, but for a feature of the program like standard report changes is unacceptible.

What programs with projects, timesheets, and payroll are available for a mid size service industry?

Intuit is stone deaf to the complaints of accounting professionals.  In a display of ultimate deception, they post the rave reviews of some, only to find out they are the same people that get paid to provide content for QBO webinars.  How low can you go

I want to start a revolution against QBO or at least somehow get in touch with corporate.  Its hard for me to believe with all the adversity of this change that the leadership is not concerned about their business model, image and long term reputation.  Not only this change but my support call with them today was very poor and the associate seemed not be concerned at all about my problem.

I'm not familiar with posting on this community and have a hard time getting it to work.  I would like to flood this forum/community with my frustrations.  I think things get burried and everyone feels like they are out in the boat alone.

To start a "revolution" against QuickBooks Online (QBO) problems, organize a collective effort by documenting specific errors in a shared log, leveraging the QuickBooks Community Forums to identify common pain points, and initiating a coordinated, public-facing campaign to escalate issues to Intuit leadership rather than relying solely on individual support chats.

Tactical Steps for a "Revolution" (Collective Action)

  • Document and Aggregate: Create a shared, public document (e.g., spreadsheet) listing bugs, unexpected system behaviors, or data inconsistencies. Evidence of consistent, widespread issues is crucial.
  • Leverage Public Forums: Use the QuickBooks Community Forums to flag issues. Encourage others to add "+1" or similar cases to your thread.
  • Coordinate Social Media Campaigns: Use platforms like Twitter/X or LinkedIn to publicly voice issues and tag QuickBooks (@QuickBooks) and Intuit.
  • Targeted Feedback: Use the "Feedback" option under the Gear icon to send direct product feedback.
  • Leverage Third-Party Advocates: Engage with certified QuickBooks ProAdvisors who may have direct lines to higher-level support channels.

You say there has been extensive testing to prove that clients want modern reporting.  However, I'm seeing the complete opposite and find it offensive that Intuit makes light of our concerns.

Meanwhile, I have to go to Google Incognito to even type this.  I keep getting logged out of the community with an error message stating the my log in cannot be verified.

Intuit!!! Please fix your software for the people that actually use it every single day.

Unfortunately, ProAdvisors have no upper level access where complaints of the inabilities of Intuit AI is concerned.  I rarely call support and on the rare occasion I do, it's to hear myself talk because I usually get to the resolution before they do.

I have posted my complaints to X and Intuit ignores that just as they ignore "feedback" and this forum.  I have never seen a company so intent on destroying relationships and good will as I have seen with intuit over the past 3 years.  Their AI actually suggested one of my clients upgrade from simple start to advanced when she is a hair stylist with a net profit of $16k.  Brilliant, I should tell her to spend $18,000 on software to track sales that gave her a $16,000 net?  Really?  I'm all in for revolution.

I suggest you create a subreddit called something like /r/QuickbooksIsAwful (gathering community names ideas from here first) and then comment it on every community post complaining of an issue, encouraging the commenter to ask for help from reddit.

I would much rather use that and get actually useful information from real users than this forum.
