Does anyone know how fix this problem? QBO creates a credit balance when there should not be one. So when I create an invoice, it is marked "paid". How can I fix this?

This happens after I record a payment to an invoice

Hi there, fran17!

There's a feature in the settings called Automatically apply credits. We can turn that off to stop QuickBooks from automatically applying unused credits to invoices. I'll guide you through the steps.

  1. Click the Gear icon and choose Accounts and Settings.
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Click the Automation section.
  4. Disable Automatically apply credits. You can click the encircled question mark to see more details about the feature.
  5. Click Save and click Done.

On the other hand, we have video tutorials for sales and customer-related topics. You may want to check them out. You can also ask more questions in this thread. Have a good one!

You missed a step between one (Account and Settings) and two (Automation). Automation is under the Advanced tab so before you can get to the Automation tab you have to select the Advanced tab.

I appreciate you for joining this thread, Frost6819.

Yes, you're right. The previous agent should have noticed the Advanced tab step before getting the Automation section. I'll let my colleague update the steps above.
