I need to set up a DCR for a restaurant. Have done it many times, and cannot see what the problem is. I get this error message: "The Tax Fields cannot be left blank, even for non-taxable customers and sales which have no taxable terms, so non-taxable sales will be correct for this district"
We do not use QB to track taxes. Our POS system prints off totals at end of day, and we just put them on a Daily Cash Report invoice. Above the subtotal are the sales, and below are the other items - credit card payments, cash payments, amount of sales tax, discounts, etc. I do not need a sales tax item to track sales tax, I just need a sales tax item to put on the DCR, based on the register readings. I have 10 restaurants set up, and have never seen this message, so I don't know what is wrong. Anybody have some help for me?
Thanks, Nancy

I'd be glad to provide some info regarding your question about sales tax in QuickBooks Desktop.
You may be required to collect taxes for certain goods and services you offer. QuickBooks helps you keep an accurate record of these taxes so you can easily monitor and remit them to the appropriate tax collecting agency. No worries, I'm here to show you how to set up a Non-Taxable Item in QuickBooks Desktop.
Once you've completed these steps, then you'll have a Non-Taxable Item to keep track of taxes for your Daily Cash Report. You can refer to this Community article for more information about Sales Tax: Set up sales tax in QuickBooks Desktop.
If you need further assistance, please leave a Reply. I'd be more than happy to help. Have a great rest of your day.
Hi Ashley,
I receive the same error message as below. The error message shows up when I am creating an invoice. All of our customers are sales tax payable, but not all of our services are taxable.
This message just popped up and I have tried rebooting, making sure updates are current
I have gone to Lists and nothing is working.
Please advise...I cannot create an invoice and therefore not able to bill our clients.
Thanks,
Thank you for posting here in the Community, @beatty1.
I can help you with resolving the error you have to create an invoice successfully.
There may be some minor data issues with your company file that's why you're having trouble creating an invoice. Try running the Rebuild and Verify Utility tool to fix possible data damage on your company file.
Please follow the steps below:
If you still get the same issue, let's try running the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix common issues.

Hi MaryJoy,
Thank you for your response. I rebuilt and verified my data. QB did not find any issues.
regarding your 2nd suggestion, I could not find my QuickBoodks Tool Hub.
I have QB 2020 desktop Mac.
Please advise...
Thanks,
Thanks for clarifying the version of QuickBooks that you're using, beatty1
The Tool Hub can only be used for QuickBooks Desktop for Windows. This is the reason why it can't be used in Mac computers.
Since the program can't detect any issues after using the Verify/Rebuild Data Utility tool, I would recommend reaching out to our chat support team. They can screen-share with you to investigate this further and resolve the issue as well.
