Hi there, @ tfarrell14

Thanks for bringing this particular message to my attention. Here’s what I know about this error when running the Summarized Payroll Data in the Excel report.

I received an update that there is currently an ongoing investigation regarding the message. We are still working to get it fixed as soon as possible.

For you to get the payroll details, you have to run the report from the previous quarters. Once you get a prompt to update, just click on Yes.

This workaround will pull up your data correctly.

I also suggest contacting us so we can add you to the list of affected users. This way we can notify you when the issue is resolved.

Here’s how to get in touch with our payroll specialists:

  1. Go to this link: https://payroll.intuit.com/support/contact/.
  2. Make sure to select Basic, Enhanced, and Standard under select the product you’re using at the upper right.
  3. Click on the Payroll tab.
  4. Click View Contact Info.

Let me know how the call goes. I’m here to help if you have other payroll concerns. Have a great day.

Thanks for getting back to us, @tfarrell14.

I'll share some additional steps as a workaround to pull up payroll data. You can delete the Summarize Payroll Data in Excel workbook template and then get a full payroll update.

Here's how:

  1. Locate your QuickBooks program folder by pressing F2 in your Home Page.
  2. Close QuickBooks.
  3. Type the QuickBooks folder location in your Windows search.
  4. Browse over to each folder location until you reach the QuickBooks folder, then look for the Components folder.
  5. Then, the Templates folder and find the QB_Payroll_Link.xlt.
  6. Right-click and delete.

After deleting the payroll link, go back to your QuickBooks and perform the payroll update.

  1. Go to Employees menu at the top.
  2. Select Get Payroll Updates.
  3. Tick the radio-button next to Download entire payroll update.
  4. Click Update.

Once you're done updating, try running the report again. If you're getting the same result, please contact our Payroll Support to get you added to the list of affected users. This way, you'll receive updates via email as progress is made towards a solution and provide this INV-24874 number for easy tracking.

  1. Go to Help, then tap QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter your concern, then hit Continue.
  4. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start messaging with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from an expert (availability may be limited).

If you need help with other tasks in QBDT, you can browse for specific topics here and look for responses that fit your concern.

Let me know how it goes or if you still have questions or concerns with payroll reports. I'm always here to help. Take care and have a great weekend.

RE: Could not connect to Quickbooks. An error occurred while attempting to find Quickbook.

It's a rather typical issue that means part of QuickBooks isn't properly registered for some reason. Normally Repairing QuickBooks from the control panel or Reinstalling it will fix this issue, unless there is some new bug.

Unfortunately we have uninstalled and reinstalled the software now.  Both QB and Excel

@AileneA

Thanks.  It appears that reports of this problem and declaration by Quickbooks that its engineers are working on it have been repeated over the last 3 years or so.

Maybe Quickbooks needs to give it to a real programmer and quite telling customers that its being addressed.
