I understand managing your client's user access is essential to prevent them from making any unauthorized changes. However, if you're using QuickBooks Online Simple Start, Essential, and Plus, viewing only the QTY ON HAND and QTY ON PO for Products is not possible.
That said, I recommend sending feedback to the QuickBooks engineering team, requesting that they consider adding this feature in the future. By doing so, they can help ensure that QuickBooks Online Simple Start, Essential, and Plus users have all the information they need to manage their inventory effectively and efficiently.
To send feedback, here's how:
However, if you're using QuickBooks Advanced, you can customize user roles to control which items clients can access. You can refer to this article for more detailed information: User roles and access rights in QuickBooks Online.
I'll add this article to learn more about how the cost of goods sold works in QuickBooks Online: How Inventory Assets and COGS work in QBO?
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work towards improving our QuickBooks features. Have a great day!
Thanks for your reply.
I am using QuickBooks Online Advanced. I already tried creating a Custom Role using the Inventory category however, that does not allow for VIEW ONLY.
Is there another way to set up this type of user? I looked at the other custom options but I can’t figure out which would work.
Can I make a custom report that is the only report this user can access?
Or some other way that I can achieve this?
Let me share some information about user roles and access rights in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Advanced, s1b.
In QBO Advanced, you can assign specific access to different areas for more control over what users can do and see. However, when granting access to the inventory section, users can add, edit, and delete customers, products, and services. "View only" access for this isn't possible.
Regarding reports, you can assign a role as a Reports-only user. They can see all reports except those that show payroll or contact information. They can also create custom reports and add report groups but can't view the actual transactions. You can't allow single-user access to a custom report.

I'll also share another article to help you filter specific accounts or customers and format the layout of your data: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.
