How do I go back to old document layout? I can't stand the way the estimates and invoices look. I don't often work through email so it makes my job more difficult.

Hello there, Jana.

I can see how essential it is to switch back to the format you get used to, which makes your work more efficient. Let me share details regarding the new invoice layout so you can achieve your goal.

Users have been migrated to the new invoice experience in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Although they can still switch to the old interface, except for QBO Simple Start and Essential. However, returning again is no longer available once they opt out.

Here's how you can switch your invoice layout:

  1. On the left pane, select +New.
  2. Choose Invoice under the Customers column.
  3. At the top right corner, select Old layout.

On the other hand, I recommend sending feedback directly to our product development team if you can no longer move out of the new interface. Your ideas might be noted and incorporated into future product updates to meet your business needs. Here's how:

  1. Head to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Share your product improvement ideas.
  4. Click Next to submit.

Moreover, you might want to scan these resources to have a guide when entering customer payments and personalizing sales forms:

I also keep receiving the emails about my payment account and now it's declined and funds will be returned to customers. How can I find out if there is money in my account?

I understand the importance of ensuring that the necessary funds are available in your account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), jana.

You can verify the available balance or check for funds in your account by logging into your bank account. If you have access to your payments account, you can sign in to view transactions, deposits, or fees through your Online Service Center.

You can check this article for more information: Find transactions within the Merchant Service Center.

I've added this article to learn more about funding time for your payments, changing the deposit account, and where to view QuickBooks Payments statements, to name a few: Common questions about payment deposits in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you require any further support in handling your payments or any other transactions. I'll be there to help in any way I can. Have a wonderful day.

I feel similarly. For that matter, why can’t I send an estimate without QBO adding sales tax? My customers are often exempt, but not always. When they request a quote, I don’t want the hassle of having to go back and forth with them about exemption certificates when they may not even become a customer! It’s a huge waste of time. How can I go back to fully manual sales tax on estimates?

Hi there, @Mmist.

Thanks for joining the thread. I can see the importance of sending estimates on time. That said, let me share some steps to help with your task.

Switching back to manual sales tax in QuickBooks depends on your existing data. If you haven't entered any sales tax transactions yet, you can simply turn off the automated sales tax feature. However, if you do have existing sales tax transactions, you'll first need to delete them. Once all sales tax transactions are deleted, you can disable the automated sales tax system and switch to entering sales tax manually.

For step-by-step instructions on turning off sales tax automation in QuickBooks Online, see this helpful article: How to turn off sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

Since you're having an issue sending estimates without sales tax included. We can run some troubleshooting steps to address the problem. This could potentially be caused by a build-up of cached data. I suggest accessing your account via incognito and sending the estimates again to verify if the issue is related to cache accumulation. Here are the shortcut keys to access this mode:

Here are the shortcut keys:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

Once logged in, re-send the estimates to verify if it's already working properly. If you're able to do so, please go back to your usual browser and clear its cache. Using other supported browsers is a good alternative too.

Let me know if you have additional questions about sending estimates or sales tax. I'm always happy to assist you. Take care.

As of 4-26-2024 the old layout button isn't on my screen anymore. Is there a way to change back to the old invoice layout. I don't like the new updated version.

I am also looking for the old layout. I do not have the ability to switch it as instructed in this email thread.

Thanks for joining us here in the QuickBooks forum, bsell and krob3. I see that you're looking to switch back to the old invoice design in QBO. Allow me to share details about this.

I'd like to let you know that QBO Simple Start and Essentials accounts have already undergone a permanent migration to the new invoice layout. This means that it's no longer possible to revert to the old design if you are subscribed to either of these plans.

I also understand that getting used to the new design may time some time. However, it offers several benefits that you might appreciate over time.

Here are a few specific examples of the benefits of the new invoice design:

  • Get alerts when a customer has accepted and paid a transaction: This can help you stay on top of your payments and avoid any delays.
  • Preview what your customers see: This can help you ensure that your invoices are professional and easy to read.
  • Offer more payment options like PayPal and Venmo: This can make it easier for your customers to pay you.

Additional discussions and details about this update are also discussed in these articles:

Additionally, I'd like to share these resources for more guidance and information when using the invoicing feature in QBO:
