How do i track actual costs vs. estimated costs for a construction project?

I have some information to share with you about project costs, @userbegehlen.

In QuickBooks Online, you can easily track the project's actual cost by visiting the Projects menu or running a Project profitability report. You’ll need to utilize the Budget feature to get the estimated costs.

Here how:

  1. Click the Projects menu.
  2. Select the Construction project.
  3. Go to the Overview tab or Projects Reports.
  4. In the Project profitability, click View.

What if the project doesn't finish in the year?  Some of our projects started in one year and won't finish until the next.

I've come to share further details about tracking projects in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @shawn1023.

Financial reports in QBO generate data based on your customization settings. When a project doesn't finish in a year, you'll have to pull up your project report (i.e., Project profitability) according to your transaction dates. Set the report date from when your project started up until it finishes. This way, you're able to get the project's actual costs.

I've attached a screenshot below for your reference.

Also, to further guide you in managing your projects and answers the most commonly asked questions about them in QBO, I'd recommend checking out these articles:
