How do i upload my item list from quickbooks desktop to my quickbooks online?

I'll be delighted to guide you on how to do that, dawn52.

You can export your item list in QuickBooks Desktop as an Excel or CSV file. Then, import it to your QuickBooks Online account using the Import Data option.

Before diving in, please take note that the product name, product type, quantity, and quantity as of date are required if you're importing inventory. If you're uploading services or non-inventory items, the name of the item is the only required field. Feel free to read this article to learn more about the formatting tips: Import products and services from Excel.

When you're ready, here's how to do it:

  1. Login to qbo.intuit.com.
  2. Go to the Gear icon.
  3. Under the Tools section, select Import data.
  4. Choose Products and Services.
  5. Click Browse, then locate and select the file.
  6. Select Open, then Next.
  7. Map your information, then click Next.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions, then hit Import to complete the process.

I also encourage visiting our FAQs page to know what are the things you can import in QuickBooks Online.

If I can be of any other help, don't hesitate to leave a comment below. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Thank you. I also want to pull in the preferred vendor for the items as well as the cost and the price for each SKU. Can that all be done at the same time? I was going to put in the initial inventory as 0 for all of them and update later. Is that ok? If it is- can you please send me the instructions for updating inventory at a later date.  Thanks

How do i upload my item list from quickbooks desktop to my quickbooks online?

I can provide you some information regarding importing items in QuickBooks Online and walk you through the steps of updating your inventory, dawn52.

Yes, you can import your items with cost and price for each SKU. See the sample screenshot below.

However, pulling in the preferred vendor isn't an option for now. You'll need to open each item and add them manually.

To update your inventory, here's how:

  1. Click + New and choose Inventory Qty Adjustment.
  2. Enter the Adjustment Date.
  3. In the Inventory adjustment account drop-down, select the appropriate account.
  4. Select the products in the Product field. The description and current quantity on hand auto-populate.
  5. For each item, enter either a new quantity or a change in quantity.
  6. In the Memo field, enter the details about the adjustment.
  7. Hit Save and close.

You can refer to this article for more details: Adjust inventory quantity on hand in QuickBooks Online. On the same link, you'll find steps on how to edit or delete an adjustment.

Kindly update me on how things go by adding another comment below. I want to make sure you're all set, and I'm here if you need further guidance with the importing process. Have a great day! All the best.
