I change the category of a check and it changes back to opening balance equity. what am I doing wrong?

Hi there , elizabethjulesde.

I  can share some troubleshooting steps that can help fix this issue.

It could be that the accumulated cache in the browser is preventing you from successfully saving the changes on the check. To rule this, you'll want to access your account using an incognito/private window. This mode doesn't use the existing site data. Here's are the shortcut keys:

  • Ctrl Shift for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl Shift for Firefox & Microsoft Edge
  • Command Shift for Safari

Once you're in, open the and edit the category of the check again. If it's now working well, close the incognito window and then go back to your regular browser. Next, clear its cache to delete the stored temporary internet files and start over fresh. Alternatively, you may also use other supported browsers.

In addition, I've added some resources that you can read to help manage your checks in QuickBooks Online:
