I don't want to do online bill payment through Quickbooks. Why did they take away the button for making a payment right after you enter a bill?

Hi there, Gary1.

I'll share some information about how bills work in QuickBooks.

The Make payment button will only appear once we've already entered or saved the bill. We'll have to click the Save or Save and close button first to be able to use the button for creating bill payments.

If you're unable to view the button, we can perform some basic troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. QuickBooks Online uses browser cache and cookies to run faster. At times, these files accumulate in the system causing user interface malfunctions (buttons and text fields).

We can start by accessing your QuickBooks account in a private/incognito browser. Performing this step will help us determine if it's a browser-related issue since this mode doesn't save cache and cookies. You can use these shortcut keys:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

Then, let's create and save the bill again. If we're able to view the Make Payment button, we'll have to go back to your normal browser then initiate a clear cache to get rid of the accumulated site data and junk files. Alternatively, we can also use other supported browsers to further isolate the issue.

In case you'll need to track all money you've paid to your vendor for a particular date range, we can customize the Transaction List by Date report.

@Gary1

Ignore what was posted by the QB person.

They changed it to Schedule Payment, as their way to try and force us all to use online bill pay.

You will have to use the same work around that we have been forced to use.

Click the tiny arrow next to "Schedule Payment"

In the drop down, click Mark as Paid

From there, you can pay, select and mark invoices as paid, or whatever you choose.

Sadly, QB doesn't see this change as a problem and will not help any of us out.

Good luck.

What an absolute load of garbage. An accounting system that dictates the way I pay my bills? Forcing me to use a paid service? In today's competitive marketplace companies need to be mindful, we have choices.

I agree.  It is outrageous and borders on criminal that QB is TRYING to force us to use a PAY FOR service!  I'll be looking for other options.

Another example of a big tech company trying to force you into giving them more money. I'm really tired of this battle. Can't wait to retire and move on from this never ending run of scams.

I'm really tired of all the scams. Another big tech company running another scam to get you to give them more money. I'm really tired of it and can't wait until I sell and retire. God bless the new crop of small business owner.
