Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, @cannbros.
You can create a copy of the standard template, name it, and personalize the details. Since the option isn't working like the way it should, I recommend checking if the issue is with the company data or the program itself.
Let's start by opening a sample company file. Follow these steps:
- Open QuickBooks Desktop.
- From the No Company Open window, select Open a sample file.
- Select any sample file on the list, then click Open.
Right after, test the solution by making a copy of the template. Here's an article to serve as your guide: Use and customize form templates.
If it works that means your company file may be damaged. Let's open it and run the Verify and Rebuild Data Utility Tool to fix the problem.
- Go to the File menu.
- Select Utilities, then Rebuild Data.
- Click OK on the QuickBooks Information window.
- Follow the prompt to save a backup.
- Hit OK when you see Rebuild has completed.
Once done, perform the same steps above except choose verify instead of rebuild. Check out this article for more information: Fix data damage on your company file.
However, if the problem persists on the sample file, I suggest repairing the software. Doing so can fix any program-related issues or errors.
Prepare the Desktop installation CD or Download the installer from the website if it's purchased through the phone or online. Once done, perform these steps:
- Restart the computer.
- Back up your QuickBooks company file.
- Go to Start and then Control Panel.
- Select Programs and Features.
- In the list of programs, select QuickBooks.
- Choose Uninstall/Change, then click Continue and Next.
- Click Repair and then Next. Wait for it to complete.
- Once done, hit Finish.
