I want my recurring sales receipt to start the first of the month. What should the start day be?

Glad to have you here in the Community forum, drbboyd@gmail.co.

The start date is the date when you want the recurring transaction sequence to start. If you need a sales receipt every first day of the month, the interval is Monthly on day 1st of every 1 month. Thus, I recommend setting the Start date to at least one day in the future since scheduled recurring transactions are automatically created, during the first half of the day. Choosing a day in the future ensures that the first instance will be created on the day you've selected.

For more details about creating recurring sales receipt, take a look at this article: Set up a recurring sales receipt.

In case you want to create recurring templates for other transactions, see this resource: Create recurring transactions in QuickBooks Online

I want my recurring sales receipt to start the first of the month. What should the start day be?

Well.  that sounds good but does not answer the question.

Today is the 17th.  I want the recurring sales receipt to start on Feb 1.

I put in for it to happen the first of every month and the next box is the start date.

If I click todays date, Jan 17th.  will the transaction start on feb 1 as Feb 1 is "in the future"

One day in the future does not answer the question.

I want my recurring sales receipt to start the first of the month. What should the start day be?

Good day, drbboyd@gmail.co.

Thanks for getting back to this thread. Allow me to add more details with regards to setting up your recurring sales receipt.

Once you set up recurring transactions in QuickBooks, you'll have the option to select the first day of the month to recur your sales transactions. For example, since Monday is the first day for February and March, you can set up your recurring sales receipt to Monday.

However, setting this up to recur on the 1st date of the month is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Although, you can still edit it after the transaction has recurred. For example, you can set up your recurring sales to Thursday for April after March 1st has recurred.

I can see how this option would be helpful for you and your business. Therefore, let me take note of this as a suggestion to improve your QuickBooks experience.

Please see the attached screen shot.

The first of the  month is an option but again, that is not the question.

Hi drbboyd@gmail.co

Thank you for your prompt reply, as well as for sharing a screenshot of what you need. I'll answer this query for you.

For the Start date box, you'll have to set it to at least one day in the future. In your case, if you enter today's date, then the first transaction QuickBooks Online (QBO) will generate is the first of February 2021.

See this article for more details on this process: How to create a recurring invoice and manage recurring transactions

Now that I have them set up, will quickbooks do the rest?  ie, draft the money from the bank account and deposit into qb cash?

Good to know that you've already set it up, drbboyd@gmail.co.

I'll share additional information about recurring sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Yes, the money will directly go to your QuickBook Cash account after the customer's charged. The next step that you'll need to do is to transfer QBO cash to your bank.

Heres' how:

  1. Go to the Cash Flow menu, then choose Transfer money in the QuickBooks Cash section.
  2. Select Transfer out.
  3. In the From field, pick your QuickBooks Cash account.
  4. In the To field, select the (+) and hit your bank account.
  5. Enter the correct amount and hit Finalize transfer.

Once done, let's categorize it to avoid any duplicates. Please go to the Banking tab, then start categorizing it. For more details, check out this article: Use your QuickBooks Cash account

You can always review your cash transfers by going to the Cash Flow menu, click the View all, and select All. This way, all the details will show up.

I've added some articles about tracking cash accounts, proper calculation, and other related topics.
