Join nowCan you create journal entries in one version of QB desktop and import into a different version. i.e. create in QB2020 and import into QB2017?
I have some ideas about importing journal entries (JE) in QuickBooks, @lscala.
Right now, you can only import journal entries from an older version (2017) of QuickBooks to a newer one (2020). QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2017 is currently unsupported.
I've got two options you can consider doing. First, you can enter those JE manually in your QBDT 2017 or look for a third-party migration tool/service.
Second, you can upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop instead. This way, you'll ensure a successful import process.
For good practice, you can back up your files. This way, you're able to restore them in case of unintended data loss.
You're always welcome to get back to me if you have more file management concerns. I'm here to back you up.
While you can't do it with QB directly, you can using our BRC Transaction Copier
You can use it to pull Journal entries from one company file and import them into another of a different version year, newer or older. It also supports most other types of transactions.
If you are not familiar with IIF but XLS, you may utilize one of these migration tool.

You may purchase just one license to run on the same machine you are running both QB Desktop year versions.
