Thanks for checking out the Community space, olivercathy1-gma.

We're unable to directly edit the mistakenly added account. You'll have to deactivate it and then recreate the correct income account in your Chart of Accounts. I'll show you how:

  1. Select Accounting from the sidebar menu.
  2. Go to Chart of accounts.
  3. Find the mistakenly created account.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow from the Action column, then choose Make inactive.
  5. Once done, you may now add the new income account.

Hi olivercathy1-gma,

Hope you’re doing great. I wanted to see how everything is going about the issue in your AR and income accounts yesterday. Was it resolved? Do you need any additional help or clarification? If you do, just let me know. I’d be happy to help you at anytime.

Looking forward to your reply. Have a pleasant day ahead!

Hi there, rwmacnamara.

I'll share some information about making an account inactive in QuickBooks Online.

In QuickBooks Online, you don't need to create a new account.  However, you can update the transactions associated with it.  If may I ask, what type of transaction it is? If invoice, you can edit the item affected to that account.

You can restore a deleted account at any time. Additionally, if the account has a non-zero balance then an adjusting transaction will be made. For additional information about this and deleting accounts, I recommend the following article: How to Delete an Account and Restore It.

Also, to get familiar with the chart of accounts and how you can find transactions in your account registers so you can review or edit them, I'd recommend checking out these articles:

Let me know if you still need further assistance with your chart of accounts. I'll be glad to help. Take care and have a great day!
