Missing customize reports option

I have a user unable to create custom reports and the customize reports options is not available for them.

What could be causing this issue and how can I resolve it?

Missing customize reports option

It's good to see you here in the Community, @Borders2books.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) uses browser cache and cookies to perform to its best. However, there are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed pages. This will cause some unusual responses like the missing customize button.

To single out the cause of this unexpected behavior, you may need to inform the user to open their account using a private browser and access the reports from there. This will help us determine if the issue is browser-related.

Here are the different keyboard shortcuts to open a private browser:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

Once done, try to customize the report again. If it works, you can go back to your regular browser and clear your cache and cookies. If the issue persists, I'd also suggest printing your reconciliation report using other supported, up-to-date browsers.

To learn more about customizing and memorizing reports in QuickBooks, see these articles:

Also, here's an article that'll provide you the complete list of available payroll reports in QBO: Run payroll reports. It also includes their description, how to print one, and marking them as your favorite, to name a few.

Feel free to add a comment below if you have other questions about creating reports or any QuickBooks related, I'll be always here to help you. Wishing you the best!

Hi Josem M,

thanks so much for reply! I had no idea that not clearing cache and cookies could cause Quickbooks to have unsual responses.  I'll give it a go and see what happens!  thanks!

Missing customize reports option

This is all I am seeing when I go to customize report...

I would like to an option to exclude specific accounts from the P+L. Is this a glitch or do I need a more premium plan of  QBO?

Missing customize reports option

Hello, mplako.

I appreciate the screenshot, and I'm here to give you some details about the missing customization options in your QuickBooks Online plan.

It looks like you're under the Simple Start plan. This subscription has basic reporting features.

You won't be able to see the filtering options on the standard Profit and Loss report. They are only available in Essentials, Plus or Advanced plans.

You might want to consider upgrading your plan to Essentials or higher if you need more reporting options.

This article can provide more details about the upgrade process: Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription

Alternatively, you can manually exclude those specific accounts by exporting your report to Excel.

On the Profit and Loss report, click the Export button (beside the small gear icon) then select Export to Excel.

Then, manually exclude those accounts you want to remove and re-calculate the income and expense totals.

Need to reconcile your bank accounts after checking your Profit and Loss report? This article can help you out: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

If you'd like to pull up other reports and get the data you need, please let me know the details below. I can also help you with any other processes in QuickBooks.

This is ridiculous and a reason to stop using QBO.  I recently downgraded to the simple start plan... it was not clear that these features would no longer be available under that plan.  This is basic capability that the system should have regardless of service plan.   I'll be moving away from QBO.

Yep, this is some real  assclown stuff. They raise the price of desktop to $800 a year, then say you can save so much by using online, but qbo is junk.
