My accountant unable to open my files on his Windows machine after exporting from Quickbooks for Mac. THe file is recognized, goes through several steps, then get error message. First -1.0, then Error code 6154

My accountant is unable to open my files on his Windows machine after exporting from Quickbooks 2020 for Mac, following all of the steps. His Windows machine regognizes my file, goes through several steps, then when you think it will open, we get error message. First, it was -1.0, then Error code 6154.

We've been doing this for 20 years, through various upgrades. I'm using Quickbooks 2020 for Mac. He is using Quickbooks 2021 for Windows. Desktop.

I have run both verify and rebuild data and the program says no problems.

HELP!

I'll help you fix this, Sacmolo.

The error that he encountered is usually caused by a corrupted company file, incorrect file path, or missing file location. To isolate this issue, you can send him a fresh copy of your company file.

After that, have him run his QuickBooks product using the administrator access by right-clicking the icon and selecting Run as administrator. This way, he'll get the permission to access the folder where the company file are kept. Also, make sure that he's running the latest version QBDT to ensure that he'll always get our latest updates and security patches.

If the issue persists, have him sync the files or folders in your ‘C:\ drive‘ using the Sync Now option. If that particular folder or file are not syncing and yet showing the same error, perform this next troubleshooting procedure:

  1. Log into your computer as the system administrator.
  2. Temporarily move your company file to another location.
  3. Reset the Sync Manager:

    • Go to QuickBooks Help Menu
    • Select the Manage Data Sync, then click the Reset Sync Manager tab.
    • Enter your credentials which includes your ‘user ID and password.
    • Permit the Sync Manager to complete the first sync.

  4. Moved your last file location to new file location
  5. Browse and search for a new location in your system for your file or folder
  6. Create a new folder, then copy the entire folder or file and paste it to the new location
  7. Make sure that highlight the particular file or folder
  8. Reset the Sync Manager again.

Lastly, I've included some articles that will help you fix common data issues in the program:

You can always find me here if you need more help in managing your company files and books. Stay safe and have a great rest of the day.

@Sacmolo

You have to use the same year version to open the file. Ask your accountant to open your backup file on the trial license for QBD 2020.
