so do you have more than 1 screen? If so does the report let you view if you move quickbooks to your primary display?

i have 4 total screens

I can see details of report on primary - screen 1 and screen 4 Sony 4k TV

i orginally thought it was because laptop screen is 4k and tv was also, screen 2 and 3 were not, but i just replaced 2 and 3 with 4K and i still have the same 1,4 work 2,3 do not. if i change the primary monitor to 2 or 3 i can only view details on the primary. very weird. and a pain

Hi there, @Dabbs101. I'm here to share some troubleshooting that will help identify what's causing the issue.

A part of your QuickBooks Desktop data may have been damaged. This causes the program not to open transactions within a report.

You can run the Verify/Rebuild toolVerify will detect any damaged data. Rebuild will attempt to fix the damaged data detected. It also allows your QuickBooks software to refresh the data inside the company file. Make sure to create a backup copy of your company file before doing the Verify and Rebuild process. If there are changes that occur, having a backup copy allows you to restore it to undo the changes.

Follow the steps below on how to verify data:

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.
    1.JPG
  4. Click OK when you see the message, QuickBooks detected no problem with your data.
  5. If Verify finds an issue with your data, you'll be prompted to Rebuild Now or View Errors.
  6. Click Close or View Errors and take note of the specific error message.

Next, here's how to rebuild data:

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.
    2.JPG
  4. Click OK if you receive a prompt to back up your company file.
  5. Click OK when you get the message, Rebuild has completed and proceed to the next step.
  6. Run Verify Data again to make sure there's no error.

Then, update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release from our official website.

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page.
  2. Click the standard setup link.
  3. Select the country, product, & version and click the Search button.
  4. Click the Get the latest updates link.
  5. After downloading the updates, navigate to the Downloads folder of your computer. Double-click the update file to initiate the installation process.
  6. Follow the prompts on the screen to install the updates.
  7. Restart your computer after the update is installed successfully.

I've also included here a guide on resolving any possible data issues: Fix data damage.

Yes.   Because I wanted to use one of my larger, extended displays as my main screen when working in QB, I just played around with the Display settings, so now that monitor is my primary display when I connect my laptop.  And currently I am able to drill down on reports no matter which screen I use.

Hello there, @Liz1954. Thanks for joining the thread.

Keeping track of your transactions is relevant to operate your business efficiently in QuickBooks Desktop.

Transactions might not open inside a report due to damaged data in your QuickBooks Desktop. I suggest performing the steps my colleague LieraMarie_A provided above to run the Verify/Rebuild tool. It enables your QuickBooks program to update the information in the company file. Please also follow the instruction for creating a backup copy of your company file before doing the process.

I'm having the same issue with 2024 version.  My bookkeeper using a different computer with the same setup has no issue which make me think the issue is with my download.  But even while doing all the update and redoing them, issue is still there.

Seem that 4 years to fix an issue is a long time.

On Facebook chat; people mentioned that they had to spend 4 days on the phone 2 hours and more at the time to try to fix the issue with the help desk.

Issue is on my 2023 version as well.

Incomprehensible.  Lots of time lost.  If this is a way to make people switch to online, maybe it's a bad one.  Can't use the online version, not made for us Intuit says.

Help!!!

Hi there, Valerie.

I understand how significant it is to keep track of your transactions using QuickBooks Desktop 2024. You can troubleshoot your QBDT app to ensure it functions efficiently by verifying and rebuilding the data, and I'm here to guide you.

Here's how:

  1. Close all your windows in your QuickBooks Desktop app.
  2. Go to File, then select Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data. If you see:
    • QuickBooks detected no problems with your data—your data is clean, and you don’t need to do anything else.
    • An error message—search for it on our QuickBooks Desktop support site to learn how to fix it.
    • Your data has lost integrity—Data damage was found in the file. Rebuild your data to fix it.

Then, proceed to rebuild your company file data:

  1. Head to File, Utilities, and then select Rebuild Data.
  2. QuickBooks will ask you to make a backup before it rebuilds your company file. Select OK. A backup is required before you can rebuild.
  3. Select where you want to save your backup, then OK. Don’t replace another backup file. Enter a new name in the File name and select Save.
  4. Select OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed.
  5. Go to File, select Utilities then select Verify Data again to check for additional damage.
    • If the verification finds more damage, you’ll need to fix it manually. Search for the errors in the qbwin.log on the QuickBooks Desktop support site for how to fix them.
    • If your error can't be found, you can restore a recent backup. Go to File then select Open or Restore Company.

If the problem persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop support to investigate this case further.

Moreover, you can also consider creating rules to categorize your transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please don't hesitate to leave a reply if you have further concerns about tracking transactions in QBDT. We're always here to ensure your business records are accurate.
