Progress invoicing calculations incorrect

I'm having a big problem for many months now, maybe even longer. We use progress invoicing a lot and for some reason, the calculations are no longer correct. It doesn't matter if I pick a % or $ in the popup screen - let's say I put in 25% on a 10,000 estimate. It should show 2,500 but always shows some random number, like 24,999.34 and it's always slightly off. Most of our estimates have multiple line items and if you look at the % on each line item it's something incredibly long like 25.0000098 or something weird. This is a real pain to fix and in some cases we just can't fix it.

Just like others here, I've chatted with support on and off for months and every time is a worse experience than before. They never seem to have any idea whatsoever in how the product works or what I'm talking about, and they tell me they'll escalate it, and nothing ever happens. So I'm posting this publicly to see if anyone can help or fix the issue. It impacts our business.

I appreciate you providing details of your concerns regarding incorrect calculations of progress invoicing, @chuck27p.

Let me share some insights on why the calculations of progress invoicing have been incorrect on your end and provide some ways to help you fix this.

The incorrect calculations you've encountered are an issue between your computer or device and the QBO servers. However, QuickBooks can behave unexpectedly due to browser problems.

To isolate this, you can try accessing your QuickBooks account through a private browsing window to see if it is a browser-related issue. You can use the following shortcut keys to access incognito mode:

  • Safari: ControlOption + P
  • Google Chrome: Press Ctrl + ShiftN
  • Firefox or Internet Explorer: Ctrl + Shift + P

If this works, you can clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. If you get the same result, I recommend switching to a different supported browser.

You may also find this resource helpful to learn how to automatically or manually send reminders to customers when your invoices are, or soon to be, overdue: Send invoice reminders automatically or manually in QuickBooks Online.

Keep your posts coming if you have additional questions about invoices in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. I'm always here to help. Stay safe.

Thanks for replying, but this seems to be a typical response in these forums. No, this does not resolve anything. I launched Safari and Chrome in private windows and the issue is still there. I have cleared cache - still there. And I'm not sure what the link is for, it has nothing to do with this issue. Thanks.

There is definitely no solution yet. My client called support about it and spent 2 hours on the phone with no luck. They're looking at switching to a new invoicing software over it.

Seems pretty clear there's a bug in the software and Intuit doesn't seem to have any intention of fixing it, which just makes creating invoices so difficult for users. It's simple math, please fix.

@chuck27p  I dunno, they'd probably have to increase the monthly QBO fee by at least another $75.00 to afford to incorporate that kind of update.

You're chat and phone support is no help. I've tried many times. They read from a script and have no idea how to help. I'm reporting a bug in your software that you need to fix ASAP.

Not that another frustrated customer complaint will help fix the issue...but I have what I think is the same issue but showing up slightly different.  I use progress invoicing and somehow when I send multiple invoices  created from the original approved estimate (anything more than a deposit then final), the totals start not adding up to what they should be.  I create an invoice from the estimate as work is completed, which seems to work fine. The issue is the "final" invoice when I select to invoice "remaining total of all lines" the amount is short by exactly 1% with no way to bill this last 1% without creating a totally unrelated invoice.  This was first discovered on a larger invoice ($113k) so it is no small amount.  I am now trying to send additional invoices to people who thought they paid the full amount already. Cumbersome and embarrassing.

Is this really just a bug? I too have tried different browsers and updates and have a brand new high end Lenovo computer.
